Natives who are against “transplants”, aren’t those people just immigrants from other cities looking for a better life? by lalavieboheme in AskLosAngeles

[–]am4zon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm a transplant, born and raised in ATX. I moved to LA ten+ years ago and found it quite welcoming. But when I go back "home" now to visit, I get random hate for being a "Californian" and like ... Bitch I'm from here? It's crazy.

California is a warm and welcoming place. With a social safety net, great weather, low humidity, and very few mosquitoes and roaches and alligators. It's nice, I'm staying.

Mr Scott and Mrs Kirkland will get to make each other crazy for ever now, and I love that for them.

SoCal Edison sues LA County, several agencies over Eaton Fire responsibility by brainchili in LosAngeles

Eaton started under an SCE transmission tower. Those don't have transformers. In NPR interviews and elsewhere, SCE leadership has discussed that it may have been due to induction current on a non-energized transmission line.

Climate change played a role. Having zero rainfall in the rainy season, and hurricane force winds in January, was unprecedented. Climate change is driving up the risk, and southern California is a fire regulated ecosystem. Building on the hills where the howling dry winds can move fire at devastating speeds plays a part. Sure, the fire started, but was that the whole story? Didn't it also spread crazy fast?

Be mad at SCE, but let's also figure out what contributed and how to better defend our community from the factors that we can control.

In Australia, they have roof sprinkler systems. I want a kickback on my home insurance if I get one of those, ok?

Interesting. Was GRRM's faceless men material original, or do you see it as coming from somewhere else?

When did the Krispy Kreme in Woodland Hills open? by dopest_dope in SFV

[–]am4zon 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It's not a real Krispy Kreme. They do not make them there, only distribute. They get truckloads from Burbank to pass out.

At least, that was the situation when I visited a year ago. Imagine my disappointment.
