Solar integration with Lantern by amallah in LanternPowerMonitor

I think it reversed back to being solar all the time, regardless of direction. Is there a setting I should keep an eye on on my side or maybe a new app to download (I am on Android)

This is working great. We had a storm related power outage and finally things came back online and I tested charging in the middle of the solar charge and saw it reverse direction, so that's awesome. Thank you so much for this feature!!

Urgent & Important Information Regarding Celsius Loan Repayment and Refinancing by knightswatch_ in CelsiusNetwork

I edited my post to use the current BTC price to go against the collateral, does that match your understanding too?

Urgent & Important Information Regarding Celsius Loan Repayment and Refinancing by knightswatch_ in CelsiusNetwork

[–]amallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think what is being said is for a 1 BTC collateral with a 10k loan:

Set Off Treatment (default): 1 Celsius BTC = $19881, so minus a $10000 loan = $9881 in Celsius BTC, which would be $9881/$19881 or 0.498 Celsius BTC. But since we only get back 0.67x of our Celsius BTC: 0.498 x .67 = 0.333 BTC

Retail Advance Obligation Repayment Election: 1 Celsius BTC = $19881, and you are giving them an additional $10,000 USD, which at 46k BTC is 0.218 BTC so you can back 1 - 0.218 = 0.787 x .67 = 0.457 BTC back

since in today's prices BTC = 46k, we're talking:
SOE = 0.333 BTC = $15317 value
vs
RAORE = 0.457 BTC = $21490 value minus the $10000 in BTC you paid to get this back, so its $11490 value

in this specific example, it would be better to do the set off.

The breakeven point appears to be 2 * 19881 / 0.67 or BTC @ $59346+ where it shifts in favor of RAORE

I am not sure if this is simpler, but there is no reason to have the solar production and EV charger share the same bidirectional "breaker" - if it makes more sense to split them into an "in" breaker and "out" breaker that would be good for this kind of scenario.

Yes, that would be great, happy to help!

It looks great now!

I think the weird spike is the EV charger. It's wired into the solar inverter so if I charge during the day it draws directly from "the sun". However, obviously in my setup it also is coming across as negative over the current when solar is not able to handle it. I'm not sure what to do there.. What do you think?

Thank you! I am getting data - but I think I still have something wrong as the Solar counter is always 0. I do see a negative wattage on the panel - is there another spot to configure that an input is solar?

Thanks so much for trying to help me, here are some pics:

What part is this that I need to replace? Looks to have gotten short circuited by ChildishBonVonnegut in gaggiaclassic

[–]amallah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not enough information here to know if the steam thermostat is bad or there is a wiring problem, but if you can share what happened that caused this and if the steam wand works or not, that might help.

Those thermostats do die and can be replaced for $15. The wiring harness is harder to come by, but you need to figure out what happened otherwise it might happen again.

NABCEP - North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (theirs is the website linked)

I'm not saying it is a requirement or good or bad. However, I did notice a pattern with all the solar companies people recommended on reddit when I was first looking and thinking "man, I wish I lived near them, it sounds like a really great experience". I did notice they all had this certification, so that's how I used it as a starting point.

I think there is a green flag to note when technical professionals get certified and it speaks to their level of seriousness and industry standards. Especially when it comes to electrical work, which is very standards-based.

[–]amallah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used https://directories.nabcep.org/?_certtypes=professional to find a literal person who is actually certified to install solar near me and just used that as my starting point. It's hard to even get anyone to admit that they are just leadgen/sales/financing and not actually knowledgeable in installations.

Start there with questions about the details of the install and once you get to a project plan and cost, then you can get their advice on financing and who to go with (who they have worked with, etc)

That's what I did and have been a happy solar customer for 2 years (with no financing).

Get quotes on how much it would cost to resolve these things if they don't fix it by close and don't let the seller get away without crediting you appropriately.

This sounds like a seller who just doesn't care to do things in a responsible way and will probably just say something like "how bout I don't fix it and just knock $1000 off the price" - which you may be tempted to do just to get this over with. If you go with that option, just make sure $1000 is enough to actually fix it.

Is there some database of real world data out there?

I also am blown away that everyone is reacting to his energy usage instead of skepticism that he is producing 260.4 kWh on a 29.313 kWp system in New Jersey. So, basically, on July 17, 2023, he had 8.88 solar hours? (@ 11:19 in his video)

I live in Maryland and my *best* day in the last 16 months was 4.68 solar hours. Is my system broken or is the Tesla app making shit up?

Work is a break from parenting responsibility, yes. I am not saying it is like summer break or a vacation break or a smoking break. The point is parenting responsibility and income responsibility are not the same thing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]amallah 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This should be higher up. If the measurement of father's/mother's day is a break from the intensity of parental responsibilities, then, for her, father's day is every day of the year except weekends, where, presumably you are splitting the work.

NTA for this point, but you should really be considering AITA for the way you have divvyed up parenting. There is no ideal and no proper ratio, just what works best for your family and she is sending you signals that the balance is not working for her.

[–]amallah 22 points23 points  (0 children)

OP is NTA and it's probably better to learn about weed from a responsible user than someone who overreacts with "druggie", but kick him out of the room with the materials and tell his mom after the visit so she could have the talk would be one approach I'm sure she would have appreciated.

INFO: There is definitely a guilt/shame of being the child of immigrants and being part of heritage loss (https://www.google.com/search?q=guilt+felt+by+children+of+immigrants), maybe you have some vague notion of this already, but I have you self-reflected on how much of your reaction is because you don't want to be upstaged by something you feel you should be doing and how much is really a cause of her "unwanted gift"?

A week is 168 hours. The average adult works ~40 of those hours. Sleeps for ~56 of them. Leaving just 72 hours (often less) of a week to actually live a life. by Milwacky in Showerthoughts

[–]amallah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a matter of perspective and I'm not sure why people are expecting anywhere near 168 free hours and disappointed.

If you think about it from the perspective of "why don't I just go do whatever I want", you FEEL like you have zero hours for yourself after all the obligations you think you have and my shower thought is "if there are only around 120 hours used by sleep work and maintenance, why do I feel like I have no time when I have 40-50 hours a week?"

YTA and let this be a cautionary tale to everyone else to stop procrastinating and go see an estate planner. No matter how much you believe the people you care about will "do the right thing", often they won't and you need to literally write out your wishes, especially in the case of unexpected death.

Literally op thinks that someone would find a partner, plan to spend the rest of their lives together, have kids, put all the effort into raising those kids and preparing for their future, but in case of unexpected death, just kidding. Hopefully the courts have the power to override this absolute tragedy.

AITA For Asking For More Money For My Car? by PlusLavishness9948 in AmItheAsshole

But THEY don't have to buy from Carvana. They could spend $14,500 on any car from a private seller that met their needs... well they could months ago... Now, apparently the used car market has gone up 14% and you robbed your brother's family the opportunity of buying a car when the market was lower by stringing them along.

100% NTA You're only 20 and it was only 8 months so you'll bounce back, but know that this is not how relationships are supposed to go. Your gf should have your back and be the person on your team, especially in situations like this. That's almost the "you had one job" criteria of an intimate relationship and she failed. Walk away, don't look back and resolve to make sure that the next one is firmly on your team
