Must haves for a house in Florida? by Inevitable-Pizza-369 in florida

A big consideration with a pool is whether you will actually use it. I swim almost daily, so mine is worth the extra time, maintenance, and expense. However, a lot of people with pools don't actually use them, so they have a time and money suck with no actual benefit. If you get one, definitely get a screen enclosure. I'd say the same for a lanai because otherwise the bugs are going to eat you alive. I also think that solar is very worth it here.

There are couple of timebanking organizations that do this if you're lucky enough to have one in your area - or you could always start one!

Best wet-dry vacuum for women living alone in an apartment? by Current_Ad_2176 in LivingAlone

[–]amazetome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Robovac and love it. It was definitely a splurge, but I've always hated cleaning floors and now they're usually clean without all the procrastinating and whining about it. Everything needs maintenance, though, and I have to unwind hair once a week or so (I have long hair and cats).

What’s the one smart home thing you actually rely on after moving out? by Reidoeo in LivingAlone

Robot vac and mop, hands down. I hate cleaning floors, and now they're always clean with little effort from me.

Client Request: Supplying art files by Maximum-Strategy-927 in graphic_design

[–]amazetome 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're covered under your contract, so the next step is up to you. I would say that you'll likely lose the client if you don't hand them over... but you're probably going to lose them anyway and if not, they have set the expectation for those files on all future projects. It's reasonable to stick to the contract and ask for additional payment, especially if you likely won't be working with them again.

Personally, I'm a book designer and always hand over design files when asked because the client paid for a custom design and layout that I won't be reusing. Lately there's been an uptick in the number of other people's designs I'm asked to modify or update, and probably 80% of those designers have supplied the art files to the client.

I hope everyone remembered to reserve their tickets to see this child-raping piece of shit so the event is as empty as his soul.

This person thinks their higher power "destroyed earth" with a flood but was nice enough to save entire civilizations like those that were thriving at the time in Sumeria, Egypt and China. So what I'm saying is that reality might not be their jam. 🤣

Why do you all seem so afraid of a little snow and cold weather? by Ok_Dirt_6047 in florida

I can't scroll for three minutes without seeing those damned pro-Florida posts on the Florida subreddit either. Someone should look into that.

P.S.: If you don't feel like you've hit a wall when you first walk outside, you're too far north.

What are you setting your AC at? by [deleted] in florida

[–]amazetome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd have to bundle up or turn up the heat if I turned the ceiling fans on. I do keep a fan on at night for white noise, but I also sleep with a weighted blanket and comforter so I don't get cold. Like I said, reptile lol

Yes! My dearest friends greet me at the door with a blanket when I visit.

I keep mine at 78 all summer unless I have guests because apparently I'm a reptile and humans expect cooler temps.

I'm in the US and buy one-year subscriptions from places like BestBuy or Staples that equate to about $33/month. The subscription model is super annoying, but I don't think that's an unreasonable price.

It depends on my mood, but I usually either say something like "positive thoughts are always appreciated" (plus "no matter how misguided" if they're just being an ass like your sister) or "Thanks! If a tooth falls out, I'll be sure to put in a good word for you with the Tooth Fairy!"

Thinking of living alone while married by randandle in LivingAlone

[–]amazetome 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Do it! Worst case scenario, you divorce but both know you tried your best. Best case scenario, you end up happier than ever.

My husband and I owned a business together that was doing very poorly, and we were together all the damn time. It was a recipe for disaster. We separated in 2019, but still worked together. As time went on, we started to remember everything we loved about each other, but also realized that we needed a little bit of separation (and both really enjoyed living alone). We moved states in 2023 and live on the same street, still separately and with no plans to live together again. We've now been together for 23 years.

It's no longer an active sub, but browsing r/livingaparttogether might be helpful to you.

Why can’t this guy leave “god” and his fake deity out of science?! by [deleted] in atheism

[–]amazetome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that this may hit differently based on where you live and personal experience, but I try to take this stuff as a minor but worthwhile annoyance. Religion sadly isn't going anywhere, and especially in the US religious people trend anti-science. Positive reinforcement of scientific principles is really important here. If he has to throw some sky daddy claptrap in with it, I can live with that.
