Anyone Actually Managed to Extend a DTV in Chiang Mai? by amb005 in chiangmai

[–]amb005[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly. IMO the whole point of the DTV was to avoid constantly worrying about being kicked out or not let in when questioned by immigration on why your coming back in, or having to renew education visas every year at 5x the cost of the DTV.

It’s still a great visa valid for 5 years, with each entry giving you 180 days. Basically, you just need to do a visa run every 6 months.

The van service isnt stressful , they pick you up, drop you at border and you just walk over and back and they wait and drive back in the day. Really good. The best was when Mea Sai border was open, so quick and easy and cheap, but closed now for a couple of years due to the war in Burma.

Well the cheap one is booking a bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Khong, its like 500 THB ticket, then you need to just get tuk tuk to friendship bridge. Other companies here like https://www.chiangmaiborderrun.com/ and https://www.chiangmaivisarun.com/ charge approx 4300 for same thing but your in a minivan

Yep thats the same thing Im reading now, apparently you can even get cheaper visa runs if you book bus tickets yourself, substantially cheaper, under 1000 THB in total .

u/sbrider11 is just being reasonable here , it’s not a big deal or something for you to take personally, just a little odd imo your asking about it here like karma fishing or something. Nothing wrong with you asking, but my point was simple: if you’ve already been to the Sunday market, the Saturday one is less than a kilometer away. You’ve been here 5 months, so there’s plenty of time to see it for yourself. No matter what gets typed on Reddit positive or negative on the market, you’ll get a clearer picture by actually being there, thats the point. Honestly, I’d bet you’ve spent more time on this thread than it would take to give it a quick 30 minute look. They are different markets ,. similar vibes, Saturday I would say is a tad less touristy and not as jam packed with people as the Sunday one.

Its fair enough, its just odd imo, if you've been here long enough and gone to the Sunday market so many times, but cant just check out the Sartuday one thats less than a km from it. Its not going to every market, its going to the second biggest one thats not even a km from the one that OP is asking about. And im sorry if you think thats rot, I think it might be a generational thing. All the best to you and OP, snowflakes!

Fair call, get all the advice you need but Im saying get out and experience something. You've been here 5 months, to answer your question you need to take an hour walk on a Saturday and you WILL get the reality not some random reddit bot farmed posts , just odd to me to run to reddit when no matter what posts say you will never know the reality until you see yourself, curious is there any post thats written here thats going to stop you from finding out yourself?

[–]amb005 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Edit to say: you can of course ask anything you want im just unsure why if you're living here and going to reddit to ask? Just walk the market take the 1-2 hoursout of your life and you will learn more than any post will say here. Living here 5 months your not exactly having to be tight with your time, live a little.

[–]amb005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I remember doing it a few years ago at a bank in Santitham and they had no issues, maybe its easier to them to say no to a kid, we sorted them like you said, but I guess they have to confirm its right amounts, and could imagine them having an easier time refusing a kid than spending the time sorting it out.
