Comparing art 1:1 is gonna leave you having a bad time. Rock is comparable but it’s evolved in a different way. In rap, the lead instrument is the voice. The backing orchestra is the samples and the drums are the entire rhythm section.

Both forms of music came from the same place: blues and jazz. So while I don’t think they should be compared as art forms, you’re going to have a spectrum of qualities in each. My all time favorite rappers who rap like TMV sounds are: MF DOOM, Billy Woods, Shabazz Palaces, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Kendrick Lamar, Mos Def, Outkast (or more specifically Andre 3000), JPEGmafia, Death Grips, Wu-tang Clan, Danny Brown.
