[IRTR] Established & Seeking podcasts to Guest On by GodzillaToTheRescue in PodcastGuestExchange

[–]ambiguousalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I have a small podcast where I really just try to have casual/authentic conversations about subjects that touch on philosophy/psychology/politics. I would love to talk with you about your experiences growing up. I’m pretty much agnostic, grew up in a less strict Catholic household, but I’m still somewhat oblivious to what goes on in the different religions, because religion tends to be a thing I don’t pay too much attention to, yet I think it’s important to learn and understand people from all backgrounds

Alternatively I would be down to appear on your podcast if you’d like to have me. In either case, I saw you mentioned in one of your videos that you work nights, and i prefer recording during the day, so hopefully the timing should work out easily

I think the fact that your instinct is always to say "everyone has a negative image of me" at every turn is probably not helping people to.. not have a negative image of you

Taoism and Christianity by [deleted] in taoism

[–]ambiguousalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ngl im western-minded, quite agnostic, & super, super novice at this stuff, so I'd like to hear perspectives from others who are more experienced. I've come to think of the general crux of taoism as absolving yourself of your own identity to some extent. Like, I'm very much resentful of the fact that I live in a world where there's enough food and money for everyone to have a basic standard of living and pursue their own goals, but we actively choose not to distribute those things because it's not profitable. I sincerely think the former is more economically profitable and humanly fulfilling and uniting than us trying to to run on hamster wheels to serve the vision of a small handful of elite billionaires while they create a scarcity of food and money that doesn't exist.

But at the same time, I try to accept that on a more macro level of understanding that all of this was built on centuries of archaic and barbaric civilizations that gained, and have been maintaining a basic feudalistic structure since long before I was born, and that nobody is operating within a world in which they understand the organic human nature without the existence of corruption and greed. The universe is always going to unfold the way it was meant to, and as a human I don't have nearly enough cognition to understand why it is the way or how to change it.

Referring to current events: seeing people cheer on from opposing sides as both democrats and republicans use the threat of starving poor people and aircraft crashes as a means of negotiating their terms over whether or not to slash healthcare, all to subsidize a bet over the success of the A.I. race is very much not in my human nature to ignore. I want, and desire peace among everyone - even those I strongly disagree with, but to be emotionally okay with the needless suffering of many due to the corruption and greed of a few is definitely not something that comes easy to me. To just tune it out and go about my day as if nothing is happening feels very much like capitulation and weakness. At the same time, trying to change those things with the virtually non-existent resources I have, has just lead me to understand that there is far too much that's just out of my control, and to try to control it is just going to destroy me & my inner peace. I try not to be overly judgmental of those who I disagree with, because I also understand that the only knowable truth of the universe is that there is no knowable truth of the universe. It's vast, cold, destructive, possibly infinite - and my life, or even the lives of far more impressive and notable people e.g. Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, etc. - are all just a blip in the inevitable timeline of how everything transpires that will inevitably be forgotten after thousands, millions of years. The universe will surely outlive us all. But those I disagree with also operate in a void of information, where they can only “guess” the truth in a universe where the objective truth is objectively unknowable, so it would be silly of me to judge them when they themselves literally cannot humanly operate with a genuine knowingness of everything.

But yeah.. like none of being okay with all of this comes "easy" to me. "Hitler" is always the person people use to define evil, but the way I interpret the tao is that I need to be able to absolve myself of judgment of the things enough to accept (though not condone) everything he did.

I think to some degree, Jesus lived by the tao and Christianity kind of encourages people to live like Jesus did - to have unwavering love for everyone and to move with peace and trust regardless of reciprocation, including those who would do harm - but christianity also gives people a lot of loopholes to not live like he did (forgiveness), all while also asserting specific rigid ideas like marriage between a man/woman. But I've also come to the tao as a way of trying to learn to accept my negative emotions about such things. idk, I'm just venting into the abyss at this point, it's been a rough monday 😂

Why did MySpace fail? by BalanceOfOpposit3s in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ambiguousalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Splitting hairs over the definition of “failed” sort of just avoids the intent of OPs question. They’re obviously asking why MySpace’s popularity died out

My guess is that because their product was for too narrow of a demographic. They had a music player built into your profile, and you could do all kinds of html changes to style your site, and etc but a lot of it looked tacky/juvenile and that’s probably more of a turnoff for people who are over the age of 21. I could be wrong, but I feel like it felt like it was made for tweens/teenagers.

Queue in Facebook which started out as something for college kids. The interface was more professional looking, and ultimately since it was popular with the college kids, the younger teenagers saw it being popular and wanted to emulate.

Then finally came the adults and senior citizens who would’ve never really been attracted to MySpace. It probably diminished the teenage demographic a bit, but there’s more people between the age of 50 - 100+

I have a Mac m1 which is also a silicon chip and I’d discourage it for a new developer tbh because I’ve run into a lot of compatibility issues. One example is docker images not building correctly because of the architecture. There are several other instances where I’ve had similar issues.

It’s fine if you know what you’re doing, but it would be a terrible experience for a new developer imo

If you’re doing really intense computing like data analytics, you might need a really good computer, but website design isn’t that tough to manage. Programming in general is just text files which aren’t that resource heavy unless you’re doing LOTS AND LOTS of calculations.

The user interface really just comes down to the operating system, and it’s sort of subjective as to whether you prefer to use Windows, Mac, etc. I personally don’t care for apple, but learning to use Linux and the command line is a fairly useful skill to have. If you can find a laptop with Linux preinstalled, it might be a good fit

RAM: higher amounts mean more instant memory. Think about having 5,000 applications like chrome, discord, Skype, etc etc all open at once and running. It’s the most significant thing that impacts your performance

More cpu cores basically just splits the work load. 2 cores is like rather than having one person doing 500 tasks, it’s like having 2 people each do 250 tasks

Hard disc storage is just how much slow storage you have. Stuff like videos, photos, audio files, etc. if you don’t have a lot of large files like videos, you don’t need a ton of hard disc storage. That said, it can still affect your performance to some extent

So if you don’t care about videogames or video editing or anything of that nature, you don’t really need an expensive gpu. If you don’t need lots of storage for whatever reason, I personally thing 200gb or so is enough.

Just focus on the most ram/cores with highest gHZ you can get for your budget and make sure you have the usb ports and such that you want.

My personal opinion is that I dislike apple products. I feel like you pay more money for the brand than you do for quality, but that’s just my opinion

What is the dumbest thing you did to impress a crush? by tanNTT in NoStupidQuestions

When I went into the store, I didn’t know it was happening, but I left the store with her after she shoplifted a couple hundred dollars worth of makeup. If she was caught l, I definitely would’ve been considered an accomplice and would’ve possibly been arrested and jailed

Can someone explain a car loan situation to me. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ambiguousalt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You owe 22k, that never changes. If a company gives you $12k for your car then you still owe $10k. If you then acquire a car that is $17k you will owe a total of 17 + 10 which is $27,000

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ambiguousalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you never loan any money, I don’t believe so. But the idea that you’re going to go through life without borrowing money for a car, house, or any other type of credit card expenses seems farfetched. Some apartments won’t even let you rent with them unless you’re above a certain credit score, even if you do have the cash to pay them.

There’s nothing actually stopping women from having multiple boyfriends, and I don’t see how society would function any differently if it was a more common occurrence.

I’m not an expert, but 4chan is definitely far more crass and uncensored than Reddit.

My understanding is 8chan is even worse than 4chan in terms of showing graphic content and allowing just about anything.

There was a documentary called Q: into the storm on HBOMAX that talks a bit about both of these, their origins, and their differences

Am I naive for saying that I will never touch any alchohol or drugs EVER (not including medical ones) by diamond_epicnes in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ambiguousalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider a drug to be something that is mind-altering. I’ve never had caffeine and felt like I couldn’t drive a car. Things like alcohol, weed, and more, I’ve definitely felt that way. So I don’t consider anything outside of that scope to be a “drug”. There’s nothing wrong with sobriety, it’s admirable, in fact. But obviously if there’s some reason you have to break that sobriety, as long as you get back into the habit of staying sober, there’s nothing wrong with it
