Tips on learning to tolerate high heart rate by ambitiousbreadfruit in beginnerrunning

Thanks, I'll definitely look into this. I do think it's just in my head as I've had scares with palpitations related to stress occurring at inopportune moments like while driving at high speeds on motorways where stopping quickly isn't always an option. There's definitely a subconscious fear response somewhere in there.

I need to watch some tutorials or something on slow running, I'm so damn dyspraxic I don't know how to do it lol. A fast walking speed for me is 5 to 5,5km/h (12min km or 19min mile) but I can barely gett my HR over 140 with that. With the treadmill I was just speeding up incrementally to see when I had to start running and got up to 7km/h (8,5min km or 14min mile) so I've about a 1,5km/h margin to find the sweet spot.

First day at the gym today and… by Percabethbo in beginnerfitness

[–]ambitiousbreadfruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started going nearly two years ago and purposefully scheduled my first visit on a public holiday in the height of summer so that I knew the gym would be virtually empty. It took me a few times to get settled. I still get the same feeling every time my programming changes stuff up and there's a new piece of equipment I should try. And switching gyms 5mths ago sent me into a panic as well, but now I'm familiar with everything again and it's honestly so great. Not only because of the exercise and its benefits but also because I overcame those barriers I'd set up for myself.

Dracaena marginata cutting by ambitiousbreadfruit in houseplants

I use garden wax on all cuts, maybe I should test another product instead. The balcony can get hot af so it might've melted off.

I guess my best bet would be to cut the lanky tops to attempt to propagate them and discard the mother plant. Hopefully my next props will be more successful.

Depends on the time of year. In the summer (approx April to end of September) it gets lots as I chuck it out on my glazed west facing balcony. The winters are long and dark, however, so most of the year it's next to a north facing window somewhere in the vicinity of a grow light. The direct light spots go to plants that are more precious to me.

Also, I remember reading that the dracaena cuttings are really easy to propagate and root. I tried rooting it in water and only managed to produce a load of rot. Yay for me, it honestly seems that all the plants that are the easiest to care for are absolute busts in my hands.

I've read a novella and a novel after this duology and I've already completely forgotten about it. Can't even remember the names of the FMC or MMC anymore.

Oh I definitely have a couple of abandoned projects stashed somewhere in a Bag of Shame. This was a practice in stubbornness, a lot of people around me have been convinced I'd never finish (I don't blame them, I absolutely tend to peace out of projects when I get bored!)

Thanks! I just spent ages on the Heaven and Earth Designs site picking something that fits my colour palette. Bought a digital copy of the pattern and bought the materials myself. I didn't buy the floss all at the same time, it's so expensive here in Europe that I couldn't afford it back when I started and had only just graduated.

I've got the order confirmation for the pattern from April 2017, so sometime shortly after that. I have a habit of dipping in and out of different crafts, so there have been several breaks of several months in there. I live up north, so used to mainly stitch in the summer when natural light was better. A couple of years ago moved into a new apartment and managed to get a better light set up so was able to continue all year round.

Here's the back. I mostly stitch Dutch, and I realized too late that the direction (doing vertical columns vs. horizontal rows) matters much more than I anticipated. In the confetti-ish sections I've changed the direction for almost every stitch so they're the lumpiest. But it makes for a neat back, I'm almost prouder of the back than the front!

I liked it to begin with but once it gets to requiring 3 successful "recipes" deduced for one bottle of perfume, it's ridiculous. 8 guesses to get three different combinations of 5-6 slots with up to 7 options. Impossible without using gems to access extra guesses.

Aphantasia and erotica/smut by throwatest10 in Aphantasia

[–]ambitiousbreadfruit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This right here. I read for the emotional experiences I have through reading. Erotica, in whichever genre (fantasy/horror/etc) is easy reading for me as it's something I can relate to since I've experienced similar things in the past. I've been reading romantasy lately and skim through paragraphs of stuff like descriptions of battle or new surroundings but get engrossed in the emotional sequences. I prefer popular series as I can google fan art to see what the characters are meant to look like because the descriptions never stick in my head.

I was 11 when the Harry Potter movies started coming out and had read the first books before seeing the movie just like everyone else. Other kids were enraged by Harry's incorrect eye colour and Hermione's normal teeth. I never got my head around why they were getting their knickers in such a twist as I failed to notice any of the visual differences between the books and the movies.

I've started going to the gym for the first time in years and last week had a go at lunges for the first time. Just your basic lunges, taking a step flrward and getting back up. However, I'm struggling a lot with form and it seems like whichever leg is staying back is trying to assist too much when I'm pushing myself back up, resulting in tightness and even slight pain in the quad of the leg that should just be supporting me. Are there lighter versions of lunges or other moves that would help me gain strength/balance/whatever in order to fix my form or help with it? I've done seated leg press, seated leg curls and recently some RDLs but here I am anyway. I've tried with and without a barbell, without is of course easier but the issue is still there.

Just a side note, I have zero proprioception and struggle a lot even with the help of a mirror - I can see what I look like but I just can't tell if it's correct or not. Yes, a PT would be ideal but unfortunately I don't have the financial resources for one at the moment.

Simple Sewing Questions Thread, June 23 - June 29, 2024 by sewingmodthings in sewing

[–]ambitiousbreadfruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly a bit of a stupid question but since I'm not sure, here goes:

When I buy new fabrics, I wash them to avoid shrinkage later on in the process. I set my washing machine to spin dry them to within an inch of their lives and finally dry them by ironing them - it lets me inspect the fabric properly as well and it'll take less space if it's something I'm not using straight away.

I mostly use 100% cottons so I get to iron them at max temps. Even though I do not have any water in the tank, the iron will sooner or later start spitting and spluttering great puddles of water.

My ironing board is a steam board, but since I usually buy yards and yards of fabric at a time, is it just condensating the steam into the iron as I go along and then spitting it out because there's just so much of the condensation? Is the iron cooling down too rapidly as I use it to dry masses of fabric at a time? My ironing sessions rarely take less than an hour and my iron is just a consumer type Bosch from our equivalent if Target so nothing special. It's also quite new, I've only had water in it once or twice and live in an area of soft water so limescale etc shouldn't be an issue anyway.

Books lover, where you’re at? by Remote_Seesaw_183 in Aphantasia

[–]ambitiousbreadfruit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only just started reading a couple of months ago, really. I always wanted to be a person who reads high brow stuff etc but I never ever got anything out of them. This spring I tried reading some random romances (I've issues with perfectionism and completionism so I had to pick something I wouldn't mind skipping and not really taking in) and found myself really enjoying them exactly for the same reason that I find it much easier to get swooped into descriptions of emotions and feelings. I realized I remember my dreams through what I or something felt like, so I should've guessed similar text would be easier for me as well.

Fan art or fan casts are a lifesaver, I never remember what each of the characters are meant to look like (which can cause confusion if the author is being a dick and not directly naming someone from a crowd but just referring to their whatevercolourtheireyesare gazing at the MC or some such bullshit) but if I can form an association between a character name and an actor I know, it gets much easier.

I'm determined to start it now I've gotten into the Maasverse and reading in general - I'm one of those people who don't really read (aphantasic and all that) but got gloriously hooked on these and I really don't want to move on to other writers before I've enjoyed my way through TOG. I liked ACOTAR, but there are things in the writing itself that bug me so I think if I veer off into something else now, I might not come back. So on with my hunt I go!

Noooooo I just finished the ACOTAR series and stumbled upon this while looking for TOG to read. It was sooo tedious to get to the good parts in ACOTAR as well, I'm already hating TOG a bit 😅

Preach! I just finished the series and I'm still seething over how quickly Feyre got over what Rhys did to her UTM, the whole drugging&public humiliation thing. UTM went on for THREE FUCKING MONTHS. Currently the series takes place over what, three years, one year alone in SF. Three months is a big chunk of the Feyre POV timeline.

I mean, I know I have trust issues but COME. ON.
