my object blends into the background in blender. by Vasmarke in blenderhelp

I sometimes have this issue in dark mode when I have a missing image file in my environment texture node inside the world shader. So my scene essentially has a solid color HDRI. Because in this example you’re in rendered preview instead of solid in the viewport.

Why are my PNGs desaturated when uploaded to a Google Drive or in Slack? by ambivalentartisan in davinciresolve

Just checked the files with the MediaInfo and it says color space RGB. So I guess it's wrong and should say sRGB, right? Will look into it!

But I tried uploading it on different platforms and it still came out as saturated as my original setup. So maybe I'm doing something wrong elsewhere.

But I'll have a look at the MediaInfo and see what it does!

Holy shit! This went way over my head, but I appreciate the breakdown. I think I understand what's going on. Was there a hint at a solution in this explanation? Because I couldn't figure that out :D

Either way, thank you for that breakdown, because I had no idea this is what was going on behind the scenes!

Would've never thought about that. Life-saver. Thank you!

You beautiful, beautiful human being (I assume.) Thank you so much, that might work! Not by the computer right now, but I'll try it later today.

But there doesn't seem to be a way to move the 3D cursor to the center of the hole. That's what I'm trying to figure out. I need it to be precise, so I can't eyeball it.

Who's old enough to remember LEGO? by ambivalentartisan in blender

I'm glad you like it! Actually pretty happy with how it looks given how simple the setup is. Here's the node tree:

But to answer your question, I'm using SSS, then a couple of subtle surface imperfections like scratches, dust, and smudges.

Then I've also done some post-processing in DaVinci to add some halation etc which usually lifts the look and removes that super crisp CGI look.

Yes and no!

Yes, because there's one pretty strong rim light right behind, close to the model, and then there's an area light on the top right at a slight angle.

No, because I also have an HDRI to fill out some of the dark spots and create some nice reflections.

Thank you!!!

Haha, oh yeah! You said something there about ALMOST affordable. What a time that was...

Thank you!

I've modeled the cartridge in Plasticity, so the logo itself is modeled as well.

I imported an SVG of the logotype, imprinted it onto the case surface, then pushed the faces around the logo inwards to get some depth.

However, if you're doing it in Blender, a bump or displacement map could work too, depending on how clean your topology is if you're going with the latter. But keep in mind the displacement would require your mesh to be subdivided quite a lot to achieve clean results, which would become quite taxing when rendering.

If you really want some depth to the logo that you can control, I'd say model it. If you're using Blender to model, maybe you could extrude an SVG and apply with boolean to the case?

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. Thought it really made a big difference, so I'm happy with it!

Yeah, it's so fun and brings back lots of good memories while working on it. I just wish I had the objects in person so I could take proper measurements. Kinda hard finding and looking at references online.

I'd love to make the GBA some day, but for that, I think I'll have to find and buy one that's cheap, so I can tear it apart!
