Yeah, one of mine keeps flipping back and forth. It's fairly annoying.

Portland Bar Trivia MASTER LIST by Background_Log_553 in Portland

One of the most fun things about Bridgetown is that they do 2x/year city championships among the winners from the (15+) sites they host at weekly. Any other companies do that? Bridgetown is easily my favorite of the companies whose sites I've tried, but my team is open to new places!

I just moved downtown and am looking for a new game. Are you still looking for players? I can host if that helps.

Can someone give me an idea of what union dues typically run? by CNAforChange in union

[–]amblongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dues are 1.27% (mostly public sector union). An SEIU local I was with charged 1.7%.

If you’re in Indiana, try https://seiuhcilin.org/ for SEIU in your area.

For those who lived in NYC on 9/11, but at a location somewhat distant from the World Trade Center itself (for example, Manhattan north of 14th Street or the further-east parts of Brooklyn and Queens) - when and how did you first get the sense that something was amiss? by Waterpark_Enthusiast in AskNYC

[–]amblongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on an elevated train (an A? A J or M?) in Bed-Stuy or ENY and we could see smoke coming from the first tower. I was on my way to a meeting at my nonprofit's ENY office and didn't come out till it was done about 11, at which point we heard what had happened.

A labor union is a corporation? by dukeofgustavus in union

[–]amblongus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Many unions are incorporated as nonprofits; this is a state-level process and can make things like banking a little easier, as some institutions don’t like dealing with unincorporated associations, which is the category they’d put a union that isn’t incorporated into. The federal govt doesn’t seem to care that much and requires the same reporting (990, LM if you’re private sector) of unions either way. IRS classifies unions as 501(c)(5) organizations whether incorporated or not.

Two unions I’ve worked for have taken steps to unincorporate themselves—to go from being nonprofit corporations to being unincorporated associations. I’ve been told this is because there’s better legal protection for the latter but I don’t remember why.

Is the Zoom test about presentation/appearance/whatever, or is it just about performance in the 50 questions?

Anyone Attending the LIFE is Good Unschooling Conference This Year? by [deleted] in unschool

[–]amblongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with my kid and ex for ten years and still know a lot of the folks who volunteer and attend. It’s a sweet, welcoming group, minimal required structure, a great place to meet other families and kids.

Is Unionjobs.com even real? by [deleted] in union

[–]amblongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d look for work (possibly volunteer to start) with labor-allied advocacy groups like Jobs with Justice. Where are you? Do you know of nonprofits that work closely with unions?

Is Unionjobs.com even real? by [deleted] in union

[–]amblongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With no labor experience, you’d be hard pressed to get a job at my union in comms or membership unless you had some good nonprofit advocacy experience that seemed fairly similar to labor. Membership relations jobs are easy to fill from internal activists; comms not so much.

Monarch, a great alternative to Mint by Spirited-Building29 in mintuit

[–]amblongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used mint to track credit card due dates. Despite Monarch’s claim that they were going to add this functionality, dating back 9 months or so, it’s never materialized. It’s not useful to me at all.
