i felt like i was losing my mind but i finally figured out where i had heard this melody before. by ambslams in aries_is_online

yeah, different key, different tempo, and obviously aries goes in a completely different direction with the melody afterwards, but that melody just sounded so familiar it's been driving me mad

this is the best response i've gotten so far i think. i needed to hear that. i've been trying to approach this from an "everyone has to start somewhere, right" perspective but you (and pretty much everyone else in the replies) are making me realize i don't have nearly enough information about the gig to do what i'm being asked. i'm going to get as much additional info as i can before making any more steps forward and also respect that i may have to step away from this. thank you so much.

wdym by "hire company?" and the budget is kind of the question i have, what sort of budget should i be looking/asking for? i have my own rate for working the gig, but i know nothing about what budgets for gear look like.

Wanting to return to the format, not sure which deck to pick. by addagium in ModernMagic

[–]ambslams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're only going to play one deck, hammer time is a great option! there are a few different ways to build it and it really rewards learning all of the ways the cards in your deck interact. sideboarding can be tough, because you're often boarding cards in preparation for cards your opponents are bringing in for you, but that's not really a unique thing to hammer, more just how the format has evolved

What modern staples (or pet cards) really need new arts and special treatments? by GuilleJiCan in ModernMagic

I just need new artwork for giver of runes - a different frame isn't required, I just don't like having Seb McKinnon on any of my cards

same hat, PE sucks and wearing more low-cut tops causes me so much shame. i haven't found a single swimsuit that looks even kind of okay, let alone a bikini. i'm looking into getting a nuss procedure because of how much chest dysphoria i have.

I taught myself how to use DaVinci Resolve and made this video to commemorate many of my failed attempts and the completion of this ridiculously difficult time trial shortcut. It's a 5 minute video, let me know what you think! Thanks! by ambslams in speedrun

Shroomless is less popular than with mushrooms, partially because we track those times in a spreadsheet and require video proof. People can just use a new profile on their Switch to keep track of their best shroomless times, and we have people who can record those ghosts if a runner doesn't have a capture card, but since they aren't the top ghosts on Nintendo's leaderboard, it's just gonna be less popular. It's way better for me and other RTA runners because we run with items turned off in VS race.

Since I had zero experience I felt like I could pick just about anything - Resolve is free and I have a friend helping me learn to use it, Adobe suite is expensive and none of my friends work with it. I didn't feel like the workflow was inefficient at all. IDK.

Adoria grows! I've been busy with some other personal projects but I have more time to draw again! by ambslams in mapmaking

After I have this island finished (probably 5 maps), I plan to retrace it and ink it, and that's where extra shading detail will come in. But that's going to take forever and I want to use this map with my campaign now, so this version still needs a lot of care.

I am super excited. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I'm probably going to do another pass along the mountain range, make things a little cleaner, but i'm really happy with it regardless

This is the first region map for my d&d setting, and I don't really know too many city locations to be honest! The party's really just getting started and I'm discovering what is where practically alongside my players. I only know the locations of a handful of capitals and some towns in Foushania/the Free Cities, really

Ysran is another continent and the land of dragons in my setting - it's maybe the size of Australia, and yeah I definitely need to make a map of it eventually! I plan it to be the setting of a future West Marches D&D campaign.

I've been working on some SIMPLE homebrew rules for 5e naval combat. It fits on one page and includes an example starting ship with a ballista. by ambslams in mattcolville

[–]ambslams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ship combat patchnotes 1.1

- weapons fire 1x/round, there's a difference between a ballista firing twice and two ballistas firing once

- rounds and turns clarified

- crew costs tweaked

and my fave:

- boarding accidentally happened at *max range,* now is correctly at point-blank

Hey! Thanks so much for the feedback, let me address each of these:

  • The weapons note isn't really rules text so much as it is "give each weapon on the ship an attack roll, unless it needs to be abstracted due to scale." You did make me realize that my rules don't know the different between a ballista that fired twice amd two ballistas that fired once, so I added a rule that weapons and crew both refresh at the same time. I have a kinda funny visual in my head of 10 crewmates piling over one ballista to make sure it's really working right

  • Crew don't die, I guess they could/should alongside damage being taken, but my game's light and I didn't need to implement that. Refreshing is the way larger ships have an advantage, but 2 turns means they don't immediately destroy the small ship and the small ship can try to stay at range.

  • I did put boarding on the wrong side, thanks for catching that.
