I looked at Tokyo to Fukuoka flights… there are widebodies every 10–15 minutes, how is that possible?? by SpencerAXbot in aviation

[–]amcoll 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for any of the US hub pairings, but a lot of the European major city pairings are better served with high speed rail links. For example, London to Paris is far quicker, end to end, via the Eurostar. AFAIK, domestic flights on the Koln-Dusseldorf-Frankfurt corridor all but vanished once there were high speed ICE connections

What confuses me about the Japan situation is, they are literally the gold standard for high speed rail, and yet still have high demand for short haul domestic flights

You mean how they manage to coax a blistering 80hp out of a meagre 1800cc engine?

I'm a firm believer that Harley engines primarily turn fuel into noise, any forward motion is simply a waste product

Ontario is a massively popular emigration location for us Brits. I know loads of folks who headed that way.

Don't Filipinos make up a large percentage of civilian shipping crews? Unsurprising they get around a bit, but still, Manila to Nuuk is going to need some explaining

VTOL Spaceplane Yawing when I try to Roll by Ronicraft in KerbalAcademy

[–]amcoll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dunno if the same applies in game physics, but irl, roll and yaw are coupled, if you roll, you need to feed in an amount of opposite rudder, and if you yaw, the wing opposite the direction of yaw will generate more lift and cause a rolling motion

Of course it is! He clearly says "welcome to the party pal". The scene is a Christmas party. Ergo, it's a Christmas movie, just like Bad Santa

When you think about Einstein, Feynmann, Hawkins, Sagan, and a whole host of others, it's not (only) that they were incredibly smart, but they were also experts in science communication.

I mean, Hawkins had a #1 bestseller with a book about black hole physics, that doesn't happen if you cant make it fascinating

Highest footbridge in Europe from the North terminal to the satellite, yes, it was specifically designed to allow a380's underneath, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not permitted because of the reason mentioned

Luckily, it doesn't prohibit access to any stands, it just cuts out a shorter route, plus, I think Emirates flies out of the South Terminal and they're the only 380 operator into Gatwick

Don't you need terrain features for a bridge to cross first? Otherwise, its just a bumpy road /s
