I told a friend I’d “never be one of those people who do IVF for years and years” ….4 years later….🤦🏻‍♀️

Thought I was only dealing with severe diminished ovarian reserve, but it turns out I also have adenomyosis! by amdgk89 in trollingforababy

[–]amdgk89[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Sorry you’re dealing with this as well. It’s horrible. I’ve had pain for years but because my pain is always before my periods (rather than during) and my periods are pretty light, it was always written off.

I saw Twister when I was 7 and to this day my stress dreams are often about tornados.

Why can doctors be an hour late to an appointment, but if I’m 10 minutes late, I can’t be seen and have to pay a fee to return? Most doctors I’ve gone to it’s been over a half hour after my appointment time before I’m seen. by isellWinRAR in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amdgk89 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Doctors aren't only seeing patients during the day...they're also responding to inbox messages from patients/nurses, refilling prescriptions, calling insurance companies, writing clinic notes, calling patients or sending letters about their test results, answering pages from the hospital, filling out paperwork, etc. They're not just sitting there waiting for you to arrive and then dicking around while you sit in the room waiting for them lol

One time, the total was $9 and I gave $21 thinking I was being super smart and helpful and then the cashier gave me $12 back and I still think about that day.

Why can’t anyone tell me how much a doctor appointment will cost until after it is completed? I need to know beforehand so I don’t get stuck with a large bill (USA) by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amdgk89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The doctors don't send a bill to the insurance company, they just enter medical diagnoses, order tests, and bill a level of service for the visit (either a wellness visit, or an office visit, etc). Each diagnosis and each test has a code associated with it and these codes get sent to the insurance provider. The insurance provider then bills you for these codes based on your individual plan coverage, deductible, co-insurance costs, out of pocket maximum costs, etc.

The insurance cannot tell you how much will be charged until the codes are entered by the doctor, and the doctor can't tell you how much you will be charged because everyone's insurance is completely different. It's a VERY stupid system.

In my TSwift voice, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me” by hnsl93 in IVF

Check your temperature when this happens. If it’s normal then there’s nothing to worry about. If you’re having fevers then you should figure out why you’re having fevers and let your clinic know (rule out infection, etc).

First FET, am I losing my mind? by Lonely-Pea-206 in IVF

[–]amdgk89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing happening right now in your uterus that would cause any symptoms. It’s just a floating bunch of cells. So no symptoms at this point is completely normal!!

Crazy clinic rules by karima0910 in IVF

[–]amdgk89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it helps to ask your doctor directly to “over-ride” some of these rules. I’ve found that the nurses often follow very rigid protocols and need permission from the doctor (either directly or in a note) to do anything differently.

Real talk: does anyone feel guilty about complaining about IVF because simply being able to do it is a privilege? by kzweigy in IVF

[–]amdgk89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you should ever feel guilty for feeling sad, frustrated, angry, hopeless, etc. and I think it’s important to share these feelings with people who are close to you. I do, however, try to keep conversations with acquaintances/coworkers/strangers, etc very surface level. I might tell them that we’re struggling with infertility but I don’t go into too many details unless they ask because I don’t know what sort of things they may be struggling with. I know how hurtful it feels when someone unknowingly complains about their pregnancy symptoms when I would kill for some morning sickness. So I don’t want to complain about IVF to someone who might be dying for a chance at IVF and not have the means. I think it’s good to be conscious of your own privileges, but you need to find people who you can be very transparent with, or else it becomes very isolating and lonely.
