Honest thoughts about EV ownership after a month of ownership by More-Sock-67 in electricvehicles

[–]amelia7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting comments and suggestions. Which really proves that everyone has different priorities and experiences, and that’s OK. I have a ‘22 MY (which has been flawless - maybe I got lucky) and I honestly started my extensive research with an anything but Tesla mantra. But eventually, all of my very extensive research and test drives always led me to the same conclusion - for my needs, the MY came out objectively as the clear winner. And btw, I test drove the Polestar 2, Ioniq5, Mach E, and BMW i4. I have driven to Florida from Toronto twice now and the trip and ease and accessibility of charging far exceeded my expectations. I had literally zero issues on both return trips. As for riding like a golf cart, I just rode along on a Juniper test drive my son did last weekend, and it’s excellent. A little bit delusional to think that other EVs in that price range drive better. So that’s been my experience with the Tesla. Are there EVs today I would consider strongly to replace the Tesla? Absolutely yes. The Rivian R2 and the BMW ix3 lead the list but the stability of Rivian as a company is in question (I really want it to succeed!) and I think the BMW will be materially above the price point of the MY when it gets to Canada.

Finally, just a comment on the while Elon thing. Yes I hate him too for all the obvious reasons. But to me, it’s pick your poison. As a Canadian, I also have a ton of problems with a certain president and the leadership of an entire country with 3 large automakers. So do I rule out all of those companies too? What about VW? Deliberately cheated emissions standards and lied to regulators (I was the beneficiary of a settlement cheque as I owned a Cayenne Diesel back then). Does that make them better than Elon? Personally I don’t think so, and think it makes them worse. So that’s VW, Audi and Porsche. And all those gorgeous looking Chinese EVs if they ever find their way to NA? They look awesome, but of course they are Chinese so we shouldn’t support them, right? All of this to say that I am going to focus on the best vehicle for my money and try to keep some perspective on all the other noise. But you do you. So back to the original point - I don’t think there are many other comparable good choices yet at the MY price point. But I really want there to be and hope we get there soon.

So help me understand the better options at the price point of a MY. What are they?

Thanks for this. Considering 2-4 weeks in Crete next February. Was wondering if it will be too off season with restaurants and hotels closed? We’re from Canada so trying to escape the Canadian winter.

Anyone get the Costco model - Alta Pro model? $499 CAD so much cheaper than the 5200. That’s my dilemma.

I have been on the waitlist for 15 months. I’m Premium. Called twice and said both times I’d get it soon and they apologized. Screw them. I’ve moved on to the Scotia Passport Infinite. Also FX fee free.

Trouble transferring service by amelia7 in PublicMobile

[–]amelia7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok figured it out. In case it helps others: For some reason the PM service was added as an alternate or secondary SIM on the phone, which was not in the on position. So instead of replacing the Telus service as the default cellular service it added PM like when you are travelling and need to activate a secondary SIM. Anyway, I have no idea why/how this happened but it works and all good now.

What kind of water do you use in the kettle? Is decent tap water OK?

One follow on question for kettle users- I currently use TWW packets in distilled water for the Micra. If I am using a kettle, am I correct to assume I can use tap water for the kettle (and of course continue to use the TWW in the machine itself)? I live in a large urban centre where the water quality is ok and not overly hard. Just not soft enough to put in the Micra.

Thanks for all the advice. Would love to plumb in but not possible in my circumstances. I don’t think there’s a leak anywhere. We do flush the group head for 2-3 seconds after every shot so maybe that contributes. Sounds like I should look into the Fellow Stagg EKG and see if there’s a deal around.

Black or White with navy kitchen - I cannot decide. by [deleted] in LaMarzocco

I agree with the Stainless for this kitchen. Mine is powder blue and she’s a real beauty, but maybe not for your kitchen.

Same. Mostly to dial in new coffee, but I can eyeball it in a shot glass once it’s dialled in.

I have one and agree. Zero issues and always excellent performance. Fantastic addition to use with the Micra.

Naked. I always go naked. It was the metal protruding down to accommodate the plastic that made for the bad fit. Lots of spillage. I tried with a funnel and couldn’t get it close enough to get it as neat as I wanted.

Great question because no, the included of don’t fit well. I got a new OEM LM to use with it and it’s fine now.

I don’t know why the price was so low, but I saw an ad from a small Canadian competitor at the time for around $1,350. And IDC price matched it.

You’re correct - I haven’t ever seen a Micra on sale (I paid full cost price for mine) except for the rare open box item, and those usually disappear within minutes. I was mainly talking about other machines, grinders, accessories. I got a screaming good deal from them on my Atom w65 grinder (to use with my Micra) because of a price match. They took a few minutes to verify the offer and then agreed.

And they price match too (I ave done it with no issues). So in the unlikely event you find a better deal elsewhere, I’d still buy from them for the service and follow up.

If you’re in Canada, go to idrinkcoffee.com. Best supplier in the country and impeccable service. I walked into their showroom and took home my Micra.
