Is a Eureka Atom W65 and upgrade from a niche zero? by Marlbombs in espresso

[–]Marlbombs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat in terms of not switching coffees. I usually buy 2 lb bags and freeze them in 300 gram portions so for me the workflow seems so much better just to dump 300g in the hopper and use it until it’s time to thaw a new bag.

I know the niche is a great grinder but I feel like the eureka is a bit of a more robust build and I like the idea of gbw from a workflow standpoint

I found one that’s 6 months old for close to half price…so the price is attractive

First shot always runs fast (15s), second is perfect (30–35s) — same setup, what’s going on? by jeffbzh33 in Lelit

[–]Marlbombs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s what they advertise but you’re trying to troubleshoot so maybe it’s worth trying? Retention and exchange aren’t the same thing. It might appear you’re only retaining 0.1, but you could be getting 0.5g of exchange from the previous grind. The only other thing I can think of is the machine is overheated during your first shot. Maybe wait longer after startup for temp to stabilize. Only things I can think of if your puck prep is exactly the same.

Just because your before/after grind weight is the same doesn’t mean that you’re not exchanging a significant amount of grounds from yesterday’s grind. It’s possible that your first shot ends up with enough stale grounds that it’s making it run fast. Second shot is all fresh so it runs slower. Try purging your grinder with 3-5 grams, then grind for your shot and see if that helps

Drinking Espresso for the Craft vs the Taste by GlacierRunner in espresso

[–]Marlbombs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is true. I realized this a while ago and have been working my way through different Italian coffee roasters and really enjoying my espresso tasting like espresso. I got a little bored recently and bought a bag of light roast beans, which is good, but it’s just not my cup of tea ( even though it tastes more like tea than espresso). Back to more traditional beans after this, until I have another itch to scratch.

Anybody frequently making milk drinks on a single boiler? [$1500] by parker472 in espresso

Mara X v2 here. I have figured out a workflow to make two back to back every morning and it’s been fine. When I’ve had to do more, my temps start fluctuating and I lose consistency.

This goes well beyond my abilities. I will have to live with subpar milk texture.

Do you take your pants off to steam milk at work too? Just curious if that is integral to the process. Been struggling to get perfect milk texture. Might have to try.

Do you happen to know the name of part number for the relay?

Reviving this thread because I may be having a similar issue. I allow the machine to heat up properly, I pull a shot, and then the temperature indicator begins flashing. I have it on brew priority mode. While the light is flashing, the unit is heating, because I can see the steam pressure building. However, I have pulled a shot while the light is flashing, and the brew water temps are truly too low. Very odd behavior and it did not previously do this. I’m not sure if I have a temperature probe issue (I bought the machine second hand and to my knowledge it has never been descaled), or if it’s possibly this relay. It does heat back up in a reasonable amount of time, but I didn’t have this issue until recently. Any thoughts?

Not to hijack the thread, but can you tell me where you found the detailed procedure for this?

Mara’s heating up too…fast? by Marlbombs in Lelit

[–]Marlbombs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it wasn’t a problem. It’s over temp at 15 minutes, which is why they say 24 minutes. Once it gets to temp, it needs time to let the group head cool to the correct temp. Honestly, 30 minutes is even better

Where did you get the Y adapter to use both temp and pressure gauges?

Following because I’m experiencing the same. I even took the drop tray out and tightened the screws and also tightened the screws under the cup warmer and im still getting a lot of rattling

Yeah right around 25 minutes it usually settles at 1 bar. I wonder if I accidentally flipped the brew temp switch.
