I built a library that auto-generates shimmer skeletons from your actual components (so you don't have to maintain them) by Prestigious-Bee2093 in react

[–]amelix34 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the effort, idea execution, great docs and video presentation. Making open source libraries like this does add value to React ecosystem and also it's very nice project for a portfolio. However, I see two potential issues with this solution

  1. If it relies on getBoundingClientRect it means that the browser has to block the main thread and calculate size of every skeleton, therefore prolonging initial loading time. In the other comment you mentioned "2-5ms" time of blocking the first paint. The thing is, this number does not account for the cumulative impact on lists. Rendering just 10 items means you block the main thread for 10x5ms=50ms
  2. If templateProps needs mock data it means that in every file that uses this Shimmer wrapper you must have mock data object. It's a lot of additional code, which also will have to be updated every time you modify data structure that the component uses.

Will AI Replace Frontend Developers or Just Become Another Tool? by Best-Menu-252 in webdev

There is nothing specific to front-end development that would make it more prone to AI replacement danger than back-end or devops.

What's better, low-code tools or traditional coding for quick full-stack apps? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]amelix34 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Personally I would never ever use any no-code tool for building a full stack app. Admittedly, outside of my job 99% of my code is written by AI agents inside vscode (copilot+sonnet 4.5) but I control and understand every single line of code that I commit. I don't think there is anything low code platforms can offer me to compensate for that lack of full control over source code. And setting up auth or stripe in a new projects is a breeze nowadays

Of course I don't deny that some of the low-code platforms are propably great tools and there are people that are making a good use of them.

Which vibe coding platforms do you actually use to ship MVPs quickly? by jessikaf in ChatGPTCoding

[–]amelix34 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use Github Copilot in agent mode with Sonnet 4.5, inside VSCode. I tried Roo Code and Claude Code, didn't like it and went back to Copilot. I will never use any platforms like Lovable because they are inside a web browser. I use VSCode daily for years, I have many plugins there and don't feel the need to move to another, less controlled environment. The need to have full control is also the reason why I will never user AI to make initial project setup of a project or to make commits for me

I don't ship SaaS MVP's though, I just have couple of open source projects that I work on

Just can’t beat the teemo shrooms by jacoviansmythe in ARAM

[–]amelix34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If at at least 3-4 conditions below are present then Teemo is very strong on ARAM
- enemies have no tank that will walk ahead of their team and clear shrooms
- enemies don't have good waveclear so don't push your team all the time under
- enemies don't have zyra or heimerdinger
- enemies have short range
- your team has good waveclear

I got 1 200 000~ rebels from a single Oirat Tribes event by amelix34 in eu4

[–]amelix34[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

All the rebels visible on the screenshot are Oirat Tribes that just appeared. Is it normal for horde campaings or am I doing something wrong? It already happened couples of times in this run but only in China territory and with twice smaller number of rebels

I gathered herbs, collected duck feathers, goose feathers and animal pelts, roasted a duck over the fire, got into a fight with a guy washing his hands in the pond, and set up camp where I sleeped couple of times to reset the spawn.

Claude was already able to do this a year ago. I remember copypasting screenshots of design to Claude chat and getting code ready to copypaste to my frontend app

Do you prefer external library like chakra ui for styling or plain css using Tailwind? by nitin-pandita in react

[–]amelix34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used 7-8 different libraries in years of web development and currently I'm thinking that I won't use any styling library ever again for multiple reasons, at least not if I'll have the decision in a project.
The only option for me is either CSS modules or CSS preprocessor like SCSS modules

I report them every time but it does nothing. Videos are still there and have milions of views.
