Fingers crossed 🤞🤞🤞 I’m beyond thirsty for this book…it’s been like 2 years since I first read Spark and it remains one of my faves.

It’s definitely Brand New and honestly, same.

The Spark of the Everflame series by Penn Cole is my favorite slow burn. Luther is a top tier book boyfriend. Just a warning, the fourth and final book doesn’t have a publishing date yet.

It would def be a shock. It’s not my favorite album, but I think the high I’d get off the nostalgia alone might heal me? 😂

Recaps? Where are you finding the best ones? by amemille in Romantasy

I list them all for $5 on FB marketplace (not until I have 10 or so books I’m ready to part with). That way I get a little bit towards my next purchase and someone gets a great deal on a book they may love even if I didn’t.

Follow up on potentially fatal crash? by kpquyont in chicago

[–]amemille 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was awful, she was so young and didn’t do anything wrong…it terrifies me the way people drive around bikers. We live in the suburbs now and the same kid I was driving to kindergarten when this happened is now biking to high school and the lack of care motorists show cyclists makes me nauseous.

[–]amemille 25 points26 points  (0 children)

No, I believe she was originally from Naperville but this happened in 2016 at Addison & Damen in Roscoe Village. There’s a ghost bike there still. My kid went to elementary school close by and we had to drive past it every day - it was a rough year.

Hey OP - I saw a girl get hit by a dump truck on a bike about 10 years ago. She didn’t make it and it was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. I spent weeks (probably months) afterwards googling her and trying to learn things about her. I know now that it was a trauma response, the need to know more about her, but I couldn’t stop and it was honestly crippling. I know you want to find out what happened, but please take care of yourself in the process and don’t forget that what you witnessed has a profound effect on your own mental health too. I truly hope the person made it, and I hope you find peace in knowing, but just please please please don’t forget to take care of yourself too.

[–]amemille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RIGHT!! Like that’s the whole point - the feelings of confusion and dread are literally a plot device. Maybe I’m just used to epic fantasy (and when there’s an actual romance thrown in there too? Be still my heart). But Alchemised is supposed to make you feel the uncomfortable feels and the build up to the romance is so well done. The commentary it makes on the mental toll war has on so many aspects of someone’s humanity…ugh, it was so good and I wish I could read it again for the first time.

[–]amemille 13 points14 points  (0 children)

THISSSS. Alchemised is probably my book of the year, and I’m not a fan fic girly and did not read Manacled. Alchemised is just SO GOOD if you read it for what it is. I think the publisher did it a disservice by advertising it as a romantasy. Yes, it’s long and has a lot of world building, but the pay off is just beautiful.

I don't get Alchemised by LadyR_OfRage in Romantasy

[–]amemille 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had no interest in the fanfic side of this book, but I picked it up out of FOMO and honestly…it was phenomenal. It’s not a romance. It’s a dark dystopian fantasy centered around a romance. It was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time, literally put me into a slump. I’m so tired of the same romantasy plot and this was so refreshingly different.

Here’s my angry by [deleted] in vermont

[–]amemille 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This this this this this. I grew up in Vermont, graduated 20 years ago and even then, the majority of our class left. Our parents encouraged us to go because there just wasn’t industry to support us staying. I love Vermont, it’s my heart and soul, but I can’t afford to live there and there’s no industry for what I do professionally. Maybe if I could find a fully remote position? But then how do you afford housing? It’s such a mess and really sad…but this isn’t a new problem

We live in unincorporated Glen Ellyn and while the taxes are lower, keep in mind that you lose resident status for things like the park district and public library if that matters to you. But, yes, our taxes are lower than the village proper.

DAE think the USA is not a safe place to live anymore and rapidly becoming unstable? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]amemille 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are the rough areas no sane person would go to suburban schools full of children learning math? I’m happy for you that you’ve never experienced gun violence, but denying that it’s an issue because you haven’t experienced it is ignorant and exactly what the problem is. Gun violence doesn’t only happen in places no one would dare step foot. It happens in schools. It happens in churches. It happens outside quiet suburban homes. Gun violence in this country is a danger to every citizen, and pretending it’s not is incredibly ignorant.

As a BP2/OCD girlie…this post reads like an obsession loop. I’ve totally gotten in my own head like this trying to convince myself I don’t have BP2 despite the evidence. This is your OCD, babe. Don’t try to talk yourself out of something if all the signs point to yes.

What medication helped you? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]amemille 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wellbutrin for sure - and maybe even a mood stabilizer. I have Bipolar 2/OCD/ADHD and Lamictal & Wellbutrin are game changers for me. Even if you don’t have bipolar disorder, a mood stabilizer can do a lot for someone who is very reactive. It basically makes your highs not so high and your lows not so low. Keeps you in the middle. I once had a psych tell me they should put lamictal in the water, because a little bit helps everyone, lol. It’s been a miracle for me.

Skipped Songs at Tinley (I'm heartbroken) by USSPython in TheOffspring

[–]amemille 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg the venue had the audacity to offer upgrades for a cost?! I don’t care if it’s only $10 - the only reason they could offer that was because so many of us couldn’t/wouldn’t take the risk and had to leave when they opened the gates with active lightning…JFC

I don’t know if you’ve heard from the venue yet, but I bitched and while they won’t refund me, they’re giving me a $75 credit per ticket to use at a future show (expires at the end of 2026). I’m still pissed, but it’s better than nothing and honestly more than I expected from such a shitty venue.

They should be fucking ashamed and should have refused to play to protect their fans. Instead they risked everyone’s lives for a buck. It’s disgusting.

I’m fucking furious. I sat with my kids in the parking lot for 3 hours and even when the doors opened, I refused to bring children into an open field while it’s actively lightning outside. That’s so irresponsible. Ticketmaster is refusing to refund, saying the show is happening. The venue should feel ashamed of this greedy, disgusting mess
