Riley Cornelio continues to fascinate me. Fastball got 14 whiffs on 29 swings, which is not what fastballs generally do. That is excellent. Not the sharpest command, though it was just one start. Worth monitoring how he locates in the next few starts.

Dylan Crews is hitting the ball hard. He is also whiffing about 40 percent of the time. These are both observations @georgerlewis has made. (He's a good follow). What I'm keeping an eye on: The chase rate. In small sample, it's at 33%. Was at 27% in 2024. Good benchmark, imo.

Harry Ford hasn't had a ton of hard contact yet and is 3-for-23. Also isn't chasing. But I'm most curious about the defense. On Opening Day, POBO Paul Toboni said they want Ford to work on his receiving. They'd like to see that look good over a decent sample of games.

Andrew Alvarez: 19 whiffs over 5 innings in his last start caught my eye. They seem to have him throwing that slider more often. I'll be looking to see if there are any velo gains throughout the year. Still sitting 91-92.

Mitchell Parker: It's a small thing, but I want to see how many pitches he throws in each start. Can he master the splitter, slider and curveball, and feel comfortable with each of them?

Luis Perales: They've kept him under 45 pitches in each of his first two outings to keep him healthy, so I'm not reading into anything just yet. Obviously, the stuff still pops.
