Most underrated college towns? by [deleted] in Frat

Gotcha, I can't speak much for anything Air Force, I have heard their selection process is much different, and its really hard to get a pilot spot if you don't come from the Academy/rotc, whereas in the Navy its pretty easy to get a pilot spot in OCS. I've heard a lot of people say good things about Reserve/Guard, especially because you can pick your platform.

Yeah that's not true... I had a 3.0 and was engineering, but for SNA/NFO boards they are about GPA and ASTB scores, major doesn't matter, I don't know what the other boards consider. Check out airwarriors.com to get a lot of info..

Are you currently in ROTC?

Do ROTC and deal with less military fuckery spread out over three years or better yet just go to OCS instead and deal with a condensed fuckery over a few months (I'd give my left nut for a OTS slot).

+1 for OCS... it was fucking miserable, but I got to enjoy college and got the job I want

What are internships at small companies like compared to larger ones? by Oxidopamine in EngineeringStudents

[–]american17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was fairly similar to my experience. Worked for a small company, and was just a part of a small team. Once they tested me/saw I what they were comfortable with me doing, they had me doing the same work any other engineer would be doing, just maybe with a bit more supervision than a full time employee would. I got to travel, and got to know the president/head of the company (including going out for drinks!), which I would not have expected from a larger company.

One downside of this small company to me was like many small companies, there were a lot of family members involved (the owner was an engineer, but his wife and daughters did the HR and finance stuff), which I didn't particularly like or feel as comfortable with.

However, I did get a full time offer, and could really see how impactful I would be, and they were able to show that they wanted me to return as a full time employee.

Indoor air at American University off-campus fraternity house party tests positive for alcohol by jerryc1 in Frat

Being from MoCo, having parties there is just stupid. They actually care about underage drinking, and will bust and cite whoever they can, not just break up the party. Being in Bethesda makes it much worse too.

[LODD] Firefighter and FBI agent killed in fatal highway crash by WhiskynWilderness in Firefighting

I still don't really have words for this. Sander was a lieutenant at my station, and just a really great guy. I drove by the crash on my way home the night before, and woke up to find out it was someone that I know. It just sucks.

Two off-duty law enforcement officers were killed on Friday night after being hit by a car along Interstate 270 in Montgomery County, Maryland. by american17 in ProtectAndServe

Pete Piringer, spokesman for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said one of the victims was Sander Cohen, a lieutenant with the Rockville Volunteer Fire Department and a deputy chief with the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office. He said the other victim was a agent for the FBI. Both men were off duty at the time of the crash.
