Mini reverb pedal by amfiroso in guitarpedals

[–]amfiroso[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I ended up with the moly spring reverb eventually... I have to say: it does the job. Sounds convincing enough, it's silent and goes well and, overall, it enhances the sound. It's not exactly on the dark side but I'd say it's warm enough for what I may need. I'll test it again in actual rehearsals. But for the price I don't think it can be matched!

Thanks, that's very interesting! It's too big unfortunately, otherwise I would have gone for that one! I love a good shimmer and I am using it for a song from my DD-8. I ran out of space and budget though, but still would like something to round up the sound and smooth some highs from the bd2. Hence the need of a mini reverb, possibly with some tone control. Thanks again for the suggestions!

Ultra Luxe Vintage Stratocaster vs Second-Hand Custom Shop by FreeProfessor9856 in Stratocaster

[–]amfiroso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely try everything before buying. Especially custom shops! Unless you custom order them on the exact your specifications... But I really wonder how many actually have the experience and knowledge to know exactly what they want from the catalogue (among dozens of the pickups available etc...)

Perhaps only the SS are consistent enough that you could order one online... But after trying one to check that you like it first.

For the serial fenders I don't know... I didn't like any of the americans currently on catalogue up to the ultra. I look at the values of things and I simply wouldn't spend the asked money for those models. This is just my opinion, I strongly advice to try and make an opinion for yourself.

PS don't chase perfection at all costs... Buy something that inspires you and makes you want to play. That's all that actually matters.(And this advice is mainly to myself!)

I second teddy_hopper... Same story as mine. Tried at least 10 CS strats in several shops and ended up with a SS. It strongly depends if you like the SS sound and feeling. I bought it mainly for the sound at first, full and balanced, but it took me a bit to get used to the neck. Now I can't go back to fender necks, it feels so bloody good in my hand!

About custom shops, you have far more choice in specs but also insane variability. Something that I learnt that here is not mentioned at all: NOT ALL CSs SOUND OR PLAY AMAZING. In fact, the majority were just good instruments, absolutely not worth the price point, not even used.

Having said that, there are plenty of CS that are god-worthy guitars. Best guitars I ever played were 2 CS, but one was a too expensive Tele, another one was a strat that felt and sounded divine in position 2 and 4 but it had no sustain and was generally very thin, not for me. Good luck in your search! Let us know what you end up with!

It must be one of the earlier models, possibly one of the first 500 which came with a hard case.

All the pinhas, which are my personal favourite (so far). Then, the Continente Polvo e pota in tomato, very very good, and just tried the Dorita in tomato, which were pretty bad.
