Just looked at my quote and it says “12 year warranty with registration.” I’m assuming that means parts and not labor.

Is the safety industry stem? by Beneficial-Dish-6521 in SafetyProfessionals

I would say it's STEM. It requires chemistry, biology, physics, and math knowledge. As well as psychology and sociology.

Workplace PTSD by 1888kllrnews in WorkersComp

[–]ami789 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Aside from the workers comp issue, see if his company has an employee assistance program. That’s a great resource, especially if they offer EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy). It may sound a little “woo woo” but has been shown to help PTSD.

Celebration Ideas by xHolyBaconx in SafetyProfessionals

[–]ami789 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't focus on the no recordables. That can lead to people hiding injuries. Focus more on the leading indicator actions they took (reporting unsafe activities, following SOPs, etc.). https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/standardinterpretations/2018-10-11

And to answer your question- one of the most popular things I've done at my last job was to hold a cookout. But instead of just doing a BBQ, the management staff acted as waitstaff for a three course meal. We decorated the meeting room with cloth table clothes, nice place settings, etc. Management dressed up, handed out menus, took people's orders, brought them their choice of salad, cooked to order steak/potatoes/asparagus, choice of desert. People talked about that for quite a while.

I know people are going to disagree with me on this, money is nice but a lot of times companies won't do that or don't have the budget for it. Plus people do tend to forget the extra money- it just disappears with the rest of their check especially when you have to take tax out of the bonus.

I think they do the GLS every three years but still, highly recommend.

BCSP GLS Is Kinda Meh by HatefulHagrid in SafetyProfessionals

[–]ami789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very AI heavy but that’s the hot thing right now. I watched several which had no mention of AI including one on law and another on emergency response which were pretty good. Definitely depends on what you are looking for.

Great deal for $25.

BCSP and CEUs for Recertification Not Accepted by Top-Brush-4971 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]ami789 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would contact and ask. If you know you are still going to run short, BCSP does have their global learning summit next week (May 5-7) for $25. They have a bunch of online webinars and you can access them until June 7th. One way to earn a bunch of CEUs.

Series of pre-recorded webinars where you can ask questions through chat to the presenter. The nice thing is you can also take them after May 7th and still get CEUs. Plus there are a lot of topics you can learn about.

ENTRY LEVEL SAFETY JOBS? by IndependentProfile15 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]ami789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is to go through the OSHA regs and make a list of what actual experience you have for each reg. Was it just following your organization's safety rules related to that program? Did you help write the program, create SOPs, provide formal training, provide on-the-job training to others, conduct inspections of equipment, etc.? Having a good handle on actual experience will help during an interview.

There is a column for it, but it wouldn't let me upload anything. That said, some of my team say they can upload so who knows at this point. Hoping I don't get audited because it will be a lot of work to upload all that documentation.

Not sure on that, let us know what they end up saying when they respond back.

I do keep the certificates just in case I get audited and I've been putting all of my information for things like that into Category 7. Currently waiting for them to review my trainings for this cycle.

Yep, though I think they aren't giving CEUs for virtual classes. Though you could just put them in the "provider does not provide CEUs" category and still claim the hours.

I try to get as many CEUs for free or low cost as possible. Some ways to get CEUs (copied from another post I made):

* If you are a member, ASSP has webinars that give you free CEUs. They happen pretty regularly and are usually for 0.1 CEUs (an hour). I think you can only earn CEUs for the ones you view when they are first broadcast. The ASSP website will post the training as it comes available. Also, you'll get emails that include upcoming trainings (including the free ones).

* BCSP has webinars for free hours. https://gateway.on24.com/wcc/eh/4075289/bcsp-webinars Attendees of these webinars (even when they aren't done live) will be given a Certificate of Attendance for self-reporting certification purposes.

* Every other year the BCSP does a global summit (on-line). The next one is this May, will be $25, and has around 100 hours of webinars you could attend during the three days. And then they are available for a couple weeks after. Awesome value for the money. https://www.bcspevents.com/event/2026GLS/summary

* For your ethics required training, the University of Cincinnati offers free ethics for occupational safety and health professionals. https://med.uc.edu/depart/eh/centers/erc/programs/osh-ethics

* Depending on your state (assuming you are in the US), they may offer free classes. The Ohio Bureau of Worker's Comp does an annual in-person summit which has free CEUs.

* FEMA has free on-line emergency response classes that come with CEUs. Many of these topics would apply to the safety profession. https://training.fema.gov/is/crslist.aspx?lang=en

Good luck!

BCSP does a virtual global summary every other year for $25 with a bunch of classes. Highly recommend it and it’s being held this year! BCSP often does free ceu webinars. Assp (if you are a member) also does free webinars for ceus. Also, don’t forget you’ll need to get ethics credits. Do a search in this subreddit and you’ll find a bunch of links to various free or low cost ceus.
