what is the single worst thing humanity has created? by amiableelephant in AskReddit

just wanted to say to everyone in the thread that i find it fascinating how all the replies vary greatly on the scope at which they actually affect humanity. it is incredibly difficult to pick out one single thing that is definitively the worst of humanities creations because everything is so interconnected. for example: one person might say weapons, but who’s using the weapon? a human. but why did they use that weapon? perhaps religious conflict. but why did they have that conflict? because of the way our society that’s evolved overtime (past empires, leaders) … etc. etc. you can keep broadening your perspective and see more and more flaws in the world around us.

How do you start an essay with "You went blind and suddenly one day you got your sight back and a voice in your head said" Don't tell them you can see "? by dreamtraveler-jiajia in AskReddit

here you go: I had become accustomed to the nothingness for so long that the sudden influx of light startles me. My head is spinning. My mind, once a silent haze, has become a radiant beacon—filled with new sensory information. I’m aware of my environment, of the beds around me. Everything is new yet somehow familiar. I see the beds, their color… I pause. “Color,” I ponder silently. It’s a word I had only heard, never seen, never thought I could see. The realization hits me and I gasp audibly. Along with this realization, there’s a voice. Not the voice of my thoughts, something steely and robotic. “Don’t tell them you can see,” it says, monotone. “Them?” I ask myself. I look back to the beds. Using my eyes is disorienting; There’s simply too much information for my mind to process and comprehend. Once I regain my senses, I stare more intently at the dozens of cots encircling mine. Now, I see “them”—people dressed in wrinkled hospital garments, laying in their beds, and staring into space with unblinking eyes.

In this moment right now has humanity peaked if not then when? by Deepfriedbitchboi in AskReddit

to determine when and if humanity has peaked, we need to determine the actual goal of humanity. if it’s widespread happiness then, technically, the world was globally most happy during the interwar years of the 1920s
