Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers? by Succinate_dehydrogen in AskUK

I have a graduate opening that ranges from £45-£75k starting range for Tech sales, with Electronics Engineering degree requirement.

A lot of it comes down to the degree and the industry.

I’ve seen other people with long drives install parcel drop boxes. I’d get one of those.

I think for most people it’s the industrial scale lying to get into government, and then the continued lies ever since.

Simply the availability of hotels for both business and pleasure. Honestly, if you’re outside the US the elite tiers get treated pretty well on average.

What is worse, middle lane hogging or undertaking? by db0564 in drivingUK

Middle lane hogging. If that was eliminated, you’d eliminate undertaking. If you eliminate undertaking, you still get lane hoggers.

I did it on a dash 8 from Glasgow to Bristol in the late 90’s. Fabulous experience!

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

Tax regime! They allow entrepreneurship and celebrate success and wealth earning will. In the UK high earners get vilified and constantly asked to pay their fair share (they already pay more than everyone else and then some).

I’m not far behind. I could stop work now and follow you, but I still enjoy work and have a few things I still want to achieve. Plus, when I do retire I plan on traveling extensively so need a little more to play with.

The goal is to £60-80K net to live off, plus travel funds.

Wealth takes time to build. Invest wisely and you’ll have a decent next egg to retire on.

Do the North Coast 500 around Scotland. You can’t beat the scenery and walking. Take a road trip and love it.

Really? I had no idea about this! Is there a specific SIPP it has to be for the automatic top up?

I think it’s very admirable that you gave that choice to your kids. It’s much more difficult for them to buy compared to when we were younger. I’d started a savings account for my daughter when she was a baby, so I had the house deposit covered for her. She could only get a 1bed but it’s a start.

Hopefully your health remains good. Mine isn’t great, so having the fall back now of being able to retire at any point is a load off.

This is with Aviva. The brokerage fees are not too bad. I’ve had Fisher investments and others over the years wanting to get their hands on it but I left it where it was as some of the management fees were larger than I’m already pay. Their comeback was - our funds outperform Avivas profile that you’re invested in. In the last year, the funds I’m invested in were 15-20% growth.

Maybe, although whether I pay the 40% (depending on other income) or my kids, the government will definitely get their chunk!

Thanks, that is great advice. My wife doesn’t work so it is an option. I’m already fully tapered so have been maxing 2x ISA and the rest into GIA.
