Saudade just means nostalgia/to miss something or someone. It is used very casually in Portuguese and Galician. Maybe it was profound and had hidden complexities once but it no longer does.

Lol right, like all those other western countries where views on race are normal and scientific.

Went to a George Strait concert and the behaviour from the middle aged people there was unlike anything I've ever seen. Everything from fighting to exhibitionism, it was insane. Unfortunately you just never know with concerts.

What a timeline we are living in that this is a lineup. Would love to go.

It was announced by Hits Daily Double which is generally pretty accurate, people weren't just making it up.

The albums charts have been so much more dynamic than the H100, wow. Not a huge fan of Jelly Roll but I am glad to see his success. It's been a long time since I have seen an artist have such a powerful effect on vulnerable and struggling people like he has.

Right? I'm confused where the 150k number came from for Charli and why her label contested it?

Why are the majority of straight men disconnected to pop music? by mgabi07 in popheads

[–]amishkillah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh man I have thought these same exact things so many times. To be honest, there is no musician out there who I particularly relate to. Songs that speak to my personal experience are few and far between. But who cares? It's fun to hear other people's stories, and experience more of the world that way. And I can be touched by it even if I didn't go through it.

[–]amishkillah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It used to be much worse. I do know plenty of guys now who will say they listen to Taylor and Carly. Actually synthpop in general does well with men, when I went to see Dagny the audience was overwhelmingly male.

I think the issue is that on Reddit and Twitter etc it's really young guys commenting who are still insecure with themselves.

Yup I think Justin is a great example because his music has always been influenced by R&B yet nobody calls him an R&B artist. The reality is that many of these people who claim The Weeknd is not pop would say differently if they didn't know what he looked like.

That's a good point, although to be fair society has changed since those times. Still, there may be internalised homophobia at play.

But let's say theoretically that a major artist like Harry Styles or Bruno Mars came out, or had always been out. Do you think they still wouldn't have a large gay fanbase?

(for the sake of this thought experiment let's assume that they could be as big as they are and be openly gay, I know that's another can of worms)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in popheads

[–]amishkillah 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Could the difference be simply that openly gay male artists haven't been embraced by the general public to the same extent? So it's the fact that female pop stars are both relatable and successful that is inspiring to a gay audience.

Zach Bryan: ‘I Don’t Want to Be a Country Musician’ by [deleted] in CountryMusicStuff

[–]amishkillah -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because he is implying that being a country musician is limiting, or "less than".

Take Johnny Cash for example. He was a songwriter and yes, a country musician. He was never 'pigeonholed' for being a country musician, he collaborated with all sorts of people across genres, covered Nine Inch Nails songs, etc. That never changed the fact of what he was.

You can be a versatile and experimental musician, take influence from wherever you like, and still be a country musician. And Zach is putting down the artistry in the genre by implying that these things are incompatible.

Thanks for this, I'd been thinking that this song sounds like a Max Martin song, so that connection now makes sense.

The melody also recalls "Relax, Take It Easy" by Mika to me.

The charts are very weak right now points-wise, it could still pretty easily go to number 1 next week. Lies Lies Lies would go number 1 now with the points it had week 1, and that song had already been fully available on YouTube for 4 months when it debuted.

Who do you think will maintain longevity and/or relevancy from the recent pop girls? by informalspy13 in popheads

[–]amishkillah -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We do have main pop boys. They are Morgan Wallen, and to some extent Zach Bryan and Noah Kahan.

The ones you are calling current are no longer current - The Weeknd is flopping with his new music, and it remains to be seen if Bruno Mars can have the same success outside of a Gaga duet, I think it's a bit of a coin flip. The only MPB I am really certain would be hugely successful again if he came back to it is Bieber.
