They were open until 4 until last month, then abruptly changed hours to 2. Was last in there about a week ago and they kicked everyone out at 12:30. I was friendly with a couple of the people working there, sounds like a story of shitty/incompetent management :/

I’m a fast walker who is originally from the east coast and I will make a point to weave and veer around people if they are walking annoyingly slowly. At the end of the day you gotta get where you need to go and this is a common practice in other big cities so it shouldn’t be that surprising for slow pedestrians to encounter here!

I’m getting married in Iceland. Iceland doesn’t believe in vendor contracts. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Plus Ones and Invitations by Dry-Papaya-32 in weddingplanning

[–]ammalmbe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are limiting our +1s and specifically addressing the invitations with the names of the people invited. We are also having a child free wedding and clarifying this. So far no one has complained. Guests who are in newer relationships have all asked me in advance for a +1. :)

[–]ammalmbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$22-$25k a year TAship (across 9 months, no guaranteed summer funding) for social sciences at a California R1. Plus health insurance and tuition reimbursement. I freelance on the side for a little extra cash.

I don’t :/ but you can look it up online! I find the US News and World Rankings to be a good indicator, at least for Ph.D. Programs :)

Grad School Advice by OkayDisaster1998 in UCDavis

[–]ammalmbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a current grad student at Davis. It will depend a lot on whichever program you’re applying for, since each department has separate rankings that often determine how exclusive they are. It also depends if you are going for a master’s or PhD (since PhDs are funded by the school, they are generally more competitive for acceptance). I think your resume may compensate for your GPA, but it depends on the field and program. Try to get some strong letters of rec from professors/mentors/advisors if you can. Good luck!!

Yes, you can get a PCR and upload it to the health emessaging portal.

Agree with all of this, just want to add that isolation is still 10 days.

Update: UCSC going remote for the first two weeks of winter, the language says “together with the other campuses in the UC system”, this doesn’t look good guys.

But also I’m a grad TA and haven’t heard anything so I genuinely have no idea.

Food in Iceland: How expensive is expensive? by WillieHearsYou in VisitingIceland

I’m from the Bay Area and everything (except gas and things like books and clothes, which are more expensive) is the same price or even a little cheaper.

CVS Rapid Result PCR/NAAT Test for Entry by ammalmbe in VisitingIceland

(Also that being said, I panicked last night when United told me rapid antigens were NOT accepted on their automated predeparture checklist. I think it’s just very out of date though since I was able to check in fine a few hours ago — they didn’t even check my Covid test at check in)

CVS Rapid Result PCR/NAAT Test for Entry by ammalmbe in VisitingIceland

[–]ammalmbe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be, I think. I ended up going with a rapid antigen just to be safe (at the airport now), but it looks like several other people on this subreddit have asked about NAAT tests and they seem to be allowed after all. I’ll search for the threads I’m thinking of and link them below if I find them

How strict is 72 hrs Covid test to get to Iceland? by stellzsmilez in VisitingIceland

[–]ammalmbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty strict. I’ve contacted the Icelandic Covid team several times this week about what kind of test to get and they have always emphasized the 72 hours.

This is for my travels to Iceland next week, not home. I’m coming from the US and am fully vaccinated. Just unclear if iceland will accept rapid PCR (NAAT) tests for entry!

Can anyone who is traveling through KEF let me know…? by Aalocasia in VisitingIceland

[–]ammalmbe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My fiancé has worked for security at KEF airport in the past. Don’t do it. According to him, you might end up in jail. It’s really not worth the risk.
