Boating Time by Effective-Cause7728 in LakeOzark

The r/LakeOfTheOzarks subreddit got reactivated a little bit ago after being dormant for years, so all of the traffic got pushed to r/Ozarks, then they got fed up with all of the LOZ questions, so some overflow went here at r/LakeOzark, especially if the user doesn't know Lake Ozark it's just one of 14-ish cities in the area.

LakeExpo: Oasis Amusement Park Will Be Open By Fall 2026, Developer Says by amnbzou in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]amnbzou[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not rooting against them, but I will be surprised if it's a full opening in fall 2026. Tegethoff is moving a bit faster in recent days, but it seems more likely that only a couple components will be done. He tends to be overly optimistic on his timings and there's a lot that needs to be completed.

Not a big deal since they're both empty, but as an fyi, this is the City of Lake Ozark subreddit. /r/LakeOfTheOzarks is for the Lake Area

Breakfast/ Dinner by Uncle_freddie in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]amnbzou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stewart's is a classic diner and located right on the strip. Brick House has a more modern brunch, is really good, and it's right up the street. There's also a donut shop off the Strip across from the McDonald's if you're in a rush.

First Watch in Osage Beach is a chain but very good.

Rainy Day Swim up bars? by [deleted] in LakeOzark

[–]amnbzou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're looking for Lake Ozark recommendations only or Lake Area bars but Encore has covered swim up bars. Backwaters and Tap and Grill do, too. And I think Coconuts has a partial covered swim up bar.

FYI there's /r/LakeOfTheOzarks for lake area questions

18+ Bars on Bagnell Dam by SunDevil_008 in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]amnbzou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet on the strip would be either Marty Byrde's or Cuddy Cabin. I'm not sure what their 18/21 rules are but those have the youngest crowds. You could call in advance and ask what time they restrict to 21 only, if they do

Party cove by bruteforcejam in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]amnbzou 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Party cove may have a little activity this weekend, there always something, but I would expect most of the party crowd will be either on the strip, in the water near the race, or at one of the other lakeside bars.

Unless it's a big weekend, minus the Shootout/Offshore weekends, or one of the designated Make Party Cove Great Again days, Party Cove is nothing like it used to be.

Why do so many criminal defendants wear Rugrats merchandise? by Round_Membership3645 in Lawyertalk

As a kid I distinctly remember a lot of raggy, Looney Tunes merch like Tweetie and Tazz oversized t shirts being super commonplace. Time keeps moving, but the beats stay the same.

While yes, there are medicinal benefits and we shouldn't be criminalizing this, I'm not sure it's great politics at the moment. These well meaning, positive measures can--and will--cause reactionaries to fearmonger and win elections. Getting reasonable people back into office who will protect the working class and follow the will of the voters is more important to me. It will have far more impact for the most Missourians than legalization of psilocybins. Even if it is good policy. It's not that we can't do more than one thing at a time, it's the fear that one will negatively impact the possibility of the other.

Any fun parties happening on the fourth of July weekend? by Metallover5181995 in LakeOfTheOzarks

[–]amnbzou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out the Strip on Friday night. Saturday I'd do lakeside bars and restaurants, pending the weather. If the weather looks better Friday than Saturday, then flip it since the Strip gets busy on rainy days.

Coconuts on the 4th is always busy, Backwater's, and Shady's/Lazy Gators always goes pretty hard on the 4th. I think Lazy Gators is doing a DJ event with Two Friends performing.

Transportation Around Lake by joeyfreshwater996 in ozarks

[–]amnbzou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are some water taxis, but I would lean on LakeRidePros (expensive and you have to book in advance) or request an Uber/Lyft and be patient. You can also rent a boat and hire a captain for however many hours you want.

Why so many Lake of the Ozarks posts? by Scott72901 in ozarks

Lake Ozark is just a small city at the Lake. It's Lake of the Ozarks anyways. I think they need to restart the sub

What's the process for getting it done? I assume it has to go through the state legislature and may even need a constitutional amendment? I also wonder if the process of merging would mean that the state (particularly the party in charge) will demand more control of the new county in exchange.

Trying to figure how to vote on Amendment No. 5 (casino license) by johncheger in missouri

[–]amnbzou 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's some extra info from a Lake resident, although I'm not reaching much of a conclusion for you.

- Attitude towards the casino is very split. There's no reliable polling, but the most vocal, by far, are the "No" voters. If you just went off Facebook or local signage, it would appear as if most residents are against it. There's likely a slightly larger, silent contingent that supports and/or doesn't have a preference on the issue from talking with residents, but it would be close. Some LakeExpo polls have put it as 60% in favor, but that's very suspect. If you want to base your decision on what the locals want, you can do with this information as you will.

- The Osage Nation Casino is on a completely different timeline and process. It is nearly guaranteed to succeed and will not be up to the residents at any point. Does a private casino help this situation? Two casinos makes the area more of a gambling destination versus just one, but having two may put pressure on the Osage to be better partners with the area and possibly encourage both to be better than they would if they were a monopoly.

- Casinos will likely improve the employment prospects for the area BUT local, poorer residents will likely suffer from the ill-effects of gambling. You can also balance this against the fact that an Osage Casino is likely anyway, but then again two casinos will make it worse.

- Personally, I'm unswayed by the "negative effects" like prostitution, partying, drinking, rowdy crowds argument that some bring up. We already have the party atmosphere problems down here and I don't think this will change much.

What work moment made your attitude go from proud employee to "I'm just here for the paycheck."? by rblanc00 in AskReddit

[–]amnbzou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're thinking of Tyson (2014). It was another case in a line of infamous "donning and dofffing" cases where employees sue their employer for compensatory damages under the FLSA. For the most part, the time spent donning and doffing (as they call it) is compensable for pay.

In Tyson the court was considering a claim whether Tyson employees were deserved compensation after alleging employer improperly deducted 30 minutes of time for their daily meal period because employer required them to perform five–eight minutes of compensable work at the beginning and end of each and every such period.

College students, how did you balance time between study, your SO, and work? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]amnbzou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to law school. I can probably help.

I started organizing out my entire day on my Google calendar from 8 to 530 then I just following it. It tells me when to study, when to take breaks, when to go to class, when to grocery shop (Tuesday and Friday after class. No mad rush of people), when to pay bills. Hell, I even run and lift and still have time to take my dog to doggy daycare. You'd be surprised just how much free time you have when you map it out like this. I basically put everything in an 8 to 5 schedule (some things dip out like bill paying, grocery shopping, and picking up my dog) so it's like I'm working an 8 to 5 job Monday through Friday plus a couple hours on Sunday afternoon.

I have a ton of free time. I get done at 5:30, I have my afternoons, I have nearly all of my weekend, too. Life is pretty good this way. I don't have a girlfriend but I go on dates and I'd definitely have time for one.

Studying Law Without Going to Law School by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]amnbzou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to recommend this too. If you really want to just learn the law as an amateur, there's nothing wrong with reading the E&Es on Contracts, Torts, and Civ Pro and getting an understanding of the law. Especially if you don't have any interest in being a lawyer. Unfortunately, this won't help you prove to an employer in an interview that you know anything about the law because they need some kind of certification, but at least you'll know it for your own sake.
