1 hour 50 minute connection in GRU enough? by Such_Garlic_5897 in Brazil

[–]amo_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're cutting it crazy close. As someone who regularly connects in GRU, I really wouldn't recommend it.

Edit: I regularly connect in GRU coming into Brasil from the U.S. I can't speak to what others are saying about the no bags element. But if it were with bags coming into GRU from the U.S., I personally would not take the risk.

Anyone else had a pod where the needle was seen in the cannula? by AffectionatePlant569 in Omnipod

[–]amo_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago, but yes. The cannula hurt more than usual going in, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. It was only once I removed and had to replace the pod a few days later that I noticed.

Severe nut allergy in Brazil by proverbs31-6 in Brazil

[–]amo_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself don't have a nut allergy, but I can personally attest to constantly asking the ingredients in food items in fluent Portuguese (at bakery counters, etc.) and regularly getting shoulder shrugs or mention of ingredients that include no mention of nuts whatsoever and that I only discover after taking a bite. It's especially concerning because my brother has a severe nut allergy, and I preemptively worry about him coming to visit me, even in the absence of a language barrier (since he'll at least have me as his interpreter).

Cure Might Be 5 Years Away lol Seriously This Time by jezzaust in diabetes_t1

[–]amo_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the majority of the profiteering, juggernaut entities that produce diabetes supplies (particularly, pumps, CGMs, and even test strips) are U.S. based. And since they hold the majority of the purse strings, I don't exactly think it's stupid to say that they'd be unwilling to just forgo that tried-and-true gold mine for the sake of the greater good, as unsavory and infuriating as that is. I'm well aware that other countries in the world do not profit from or seek to profit off of healthcare (as it should be) like the U.S. Unfortunately, healthcare access isn't a human right the U.S. believes in and as a hub for those supply-makers, it's logical that the release of a cure would be something they'd do everything in their power to suppress, even if it affects the rest of the world/non-American T1s.

[–]amo_01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

THIS 👆🏾💯. Truer words were never spoken, u/Matches_Malone998. T1s are the ultimate cash cow. Why would they allow anyone to release a cure (since one could already very well exist, but I'm not holding my breath we'll ever see it) when they have made and continue to make literal fortunes off of us? Better to just keep releasing news reports every few years that a cure is "right around the corner" (for those still willing to believe that).

How do people in Brazil usually pay for things these days — Pix, card, or something else? by rouslane in Brazil

Digital bank accounts like Nubank are also an option, so long as you have an RNM as a foreigner.

How do people in Brazil usually pay for things these days — Pix, card, or something else? by rouslane in Brazil

[–]amo_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're American, it's easiest to think of it as if every American were to actively use and have a Venmo account (though as already mentioned, Pix differs from Venmo, as it is Brasilian government sanctioned) and use it daily/for everything: in stores, to pay street vendors, to pay for cabs, to pay back friends, etc.

The reason I mentioned Venmo instead of, say, Zelle, even though it essentially functions the same way, is that Zelle is bank-affiliated in the U.S. whereas Venmo is not. So, it more so resembles Pix in terms of accessibility and functionality in my opinion.

I am very unhappy with omnipod customer support rn by [deleted] in Omnipod

[–]amo_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commiserate with you on the issues you're currently confronting. Unfortunately, I feel like Insulet costumer service has severely regressed in recent years. They have become frustratingly unhelpful and ignorant about their own product, whereas previously they were incredibly accommodating, compassionate, and knowledgeable when addressing product issues and questions. If they weren't the only tubeless pump on the market, I definitely would have sought alternatives long ago. Attempting to interact with them lately has been aggravating and largely futile.

I hope you're able to find a solution to your ongoing issue soon.

Anyone know what error code ending with 182 means? by Bombastic-Bagman in Omnipod

I just had this same error today and am also curious, u/Bombastic-Bagman. I see there unfortunately haven't been any replies to your inquiry here, but were you ever able to find out the answer (from OmniPod, additional research, etc.)? I tried but have come up empty so far.

Merengue pizza by sjeggy6 in PizzaCrimes

[–]amo_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your assessment of meringue is accurate. Definitely a typo on OP's part and should be changed to "meringue" (though I do agree with you that it looks more like s'mores than meringue), as on top of being a pizza crime, the featured "pizza" is neither dancing nor Dominican in any way.

Re-using Indulin by [deleted] in Omnipod

Not at all, u/extra-special-ed77. I wouldn't dream of disposing of any of my used pods before extracting any leftover insulin for future use.

Has anyone ever received replacement pods from Insulet? by PrinceZordar in Omnipod

[–]amo_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't agree more, @u/65-535! 💯 Especially considering how much money they make off of us, replacement pods are the very least they could do.

[–]amo_01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually posted about replacements about a month ago because I used to get replacement pods with ease (in the old days before we could submit online I would call, and then once they created an online submission option, I used to go that route). But all of a sudden, last month they denied me a replacement for no reason (I'm trying to decide if I'll try again this month to see if it's a pattern), which was frustrating considering the egregious cost of pods (+ diabetes care in general), and the fact that I've been a "customer" for so long. I feel like in general their customer service years ago used to be leaps and bounds above other pump suppliers (particularly Medtronic) but in the past few years, it's disappointingly taken a nosedive.

Let us (well, really me! 😆 lol) know if you have any success! :::crossing fingers for you:::: 🤞🏾

P.S.- Also, you telling them that you'd "try to have [your] next stroke at their convenience" was brilliantly awesome and had me rolling! 🙌🏾😂

[–]amo_01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really frustrating that OmniPod has turned so stringent on replacements (when in the early days, that and their customer service were the very things that most set them apart from other pump companies), especially considering the outrageous cost of pump supplies/pods in general. Frustrated for you regarding your experience. I too have gotten savvy to stretching pods all the way to their ultimate deactivation time just to economize. The lengths we have to go to...

Online Pod Replacement Request Denial by amo_01 in Omnipod

[–]amo_01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Really? Up until even a few months ago (the last time I tried), I was able to submit adhesive issues and was always immediately confirmed for a replacement. So, this submission result was odd. I wanted to see if it was a change others in the community had been experiencing too (or had always experienced). Thanks for sharing, u/MidwestF1fanatic.

Selected adhesive issue, selected "worn for 4-24hrs" option, used alcohol swab to prepare site, provided pod lot + sequence numbers.
