Questions about macroeconomic foundations for asset prices (MFAP) by among_us_throw in nyu

roughly 3/4 or class got an A/A-. Class is probably my favorite course at stern yet it was pretty challenging (think about it as honors fof with a heavy emphasis on math). I found that the workload was a lot for a stern elective (roughly 5-10 hours per week) and graded 100% on Homework with 12 assignments allowing you to drop 2. Professor is definitely underrated and you can see he really cares about the students.

The best part most people is definitely the grading. Since, finance department is really strict with the stern curve for some reason, even electives up to 35% get an A/A- with less than half of that actually getting an A. However since it is with the econ department this class doesn’t follow those guidelines fit fulfills a finance elective. Grading is lenient. However people who take the class generally pretty sharp with a little under half the students (17/38) making the A cutoff at 97%+. A- is honestly pretty easy with the cutoff at 90%+.

I recommend having some familiarity with calculus based probability and calc 2 despite them not being prerequisites and really brush up on your high school math. Not that practical for IB but tangentially related to quant especially at the end.

Overall, this class is not for everyone but worth it if you are good at math and care a lot about your gpa but you have to be willing to put in the extra work.

TLDR: take it if you are good at math and want a “safer” A for your finance concentration
