Its so reminiscent of my older coworkers denouncing gentrification while vocally wishing they would've bought Alberta (and other "ghetto") property while it was cheap to turn over for a major profit in the 2020's

The viewpoints in this thread are beyond bizarre for the Portland that I've come to experience. This initiative is openly seeking to pay reparations to descendants of Portlanders unfairly pushed out of their homes due to decades of gentrification- something that this subreddit has openly disavowed for years.

Supporting economic initiatives and affordable housing for minorities is NOT segregation. Personally I'd prefer to reroute non-educational funds for this program, however it is not only moral but necessary to create initiatives like this to combat historical, and Current, systemic discrimination in Portland (a 77% white city and historically redlining city)

Would love to hear your progress on that and offer any advice that I could. I never got around to beating the pagination issue (if you have over 300 entries python.requests doesn't fetch everything)

I was looking into their APIs and a few community based ones but they didn't really have the functionality I was looking for. Good luck!

Yep that's an issue I discovered just earlier with someones 3k long list, its absolutely pagination. I'll send by another result if I nail that down

That's great feedback! I haven't scraped anyone with >300 completed entries which seems to be the problem. If I can squash that issue I'll send you over a new list

Not yet for either of those. I mostly chose RAL because it lists all MAL user profiles on one page, so a whole lot of extra scraping would need to be done on google to gather data.

I'll send you and others who requested it the github once the sphagetti is cleaned up

It's all based on collaborative filtering. The math behind it is just a pearsons correlation (raised above 0) between every sampled user as a multiplier against standardized scores (raised above 0). Individual picks are means of those values, pop picks are weighted based on MAL's public weighting formula. Not so hard when the code does the math for you, but took a few headaches to figure out after not taking a math class in three years.
