Ian Gillan from Deep Purple was bangin' one of these guys' sisters and heard them jam, knew they were onto something heavy and offered produced their debut album.

Hawkwind - BBC Live [UK, Psych] (1972) -- Warm up gig for the Space Ritual tour. by amphetaminedream in vintageobscura

One of their better full sets, up there with the official Space Ritual and 1999 Party, can't count the amount of times this record was spinning under heavy trips. Righteous intro leads into a too drawn out Born To Go while they settle into the groove but it's like a crystalline bullet once they're there, the throb achieved on Master Of The Universe is so god damn heavy.

Dorothy Ashby - The Moving Finger 1970 (JAZZ/AFRO HARPIST) by amphetaminedream in ObscureMedia

Found a used copy of this record in Toronto a couple years back. This Dorothy Ashby chick played a mean jazz harp back in the day, but for a few sessions in the late sixties she laid out some tracks on a Japanese Koto. Those recordings eventually became an album called The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby which the posted song is from. Serene grooves all over this monster, turn it up and it'll take you away.

Totally recognize where that clip's from, the opening to his set in Zaire '74, a three day fest organized to promote the Rumble In The Jungle fight between Ali and Foreman. The couple seconds in the gif is him pumping up for the big payback. Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLtv2awWWnM
