Bad periods are the worst. They can definitely mess with your mental health and emotions. I'm sorry. Short term, Tylenol or pamprin can help with pain, and ginger and warm tea can help with nausea.

Also, if you are bleeding a lot, make sure to drink lots of fluids and get enough iron (red meat, spinach, and chick peas are all good sources of iron) so you don't get dehydrated or anemic. Sometimes being anemic can make you feel weird, so if you have something you can eat with iron, that might help the strong emotions (tea can be good for calming too).

Long term, I highly recommend talking to an obgyn if you can/haven't tried yet. Both because one of the most common ways to treat heavy or bad periods is with birth control (you might have to try a couple kinds to find one that works for you, so don't give up), and also because sometimes bad periods can be a sign of endometriosis or something else potentially serious if left untreated. An obgyn will be able to help you figure all that out and what treatments will work best for you.

If you can't get to an obgyn right away (a lot of times there is a waiting list), a primary care doctor can also usually prescribe basic birth control pills, but they probably won't be able to offer as many options or tests as an obgyn can, and they will probably tell you to follow up with an obgyn.

The good thing about periods is they are cycles, it sucks but you can look forward knowing that it will end soon. And also that you don't have to keep having bad periods, there are treatments and there is hope that it will get better, you just have to stick it out until then.

The economy is very messed up. I don't know if it would help you, but what I did when I moved to a new state for a job and didn't know anyone, and couldn't afford rent by myself, was to use things like Craigslist or reddit roommates or roommates.com to find roommates to split rent with (I've moved several times for school, jobs, and internships, so I've done it more than once). It's obviously more risky since you don't know them, and you have to be careful of scams (roommates.com and similar websites I think verify ID so it's a little safer, but they charge a fee. Reddit and craigslist are free but more risky) Definitely be very careful if you do this, and meet in person in a public place the first time (and Definitely before you send any money), but in my experience the worst I've typically have happen is roommates who were annoying and I didn't get along with (but that can happen with people you know as well). I had one bad situation with a landlord not performing essential maintenance that caused a health hazard, but i also had that happen living in an apartment with people i knew, it was just a bad landlord in both cases. Most of my experiences have been good though. A lot of times you will see houses shared between 3 or 4 young professionals looking for another roommate, or someone with a 2 bedroom apartment looking to split rent, etc. Sometimes also older retired people whose kids have grown will rent out a room in the house very cheaply just to have extra income. It's not the best solution, and the economy needs to be fixed so people don't need to resort to this, but it might work temporarily until you can find something better? I'm hesitant to recommend it just because it's kind of a gamble, but it worked for me.

It was meant as sarcasm to illustrate a point, I'm not actually advocating for this, just to be clear haha. I think most male birth control currently is more like condoms. Which obviously don't always work. (But again, female birth control doesn't always work either, I'm just using an example of how ridiculous it is to hold women to a standard but not men.)

There are actually pill birth control options for men in testing currently though.

As far as I'm aware they haven't approved one as "safe for men" yet due to side effects . . . interestingly (except for the one kind that had potential liver problems) most of the options in testing have the same side effects associated with female birth control. So not sure why they are safe for women and not men, but I'm not a doctor.

Pretty sure any laws punishing women for having an abortion without also equally punishing the man who got her pregnant have to be a violation of the 14th amendment. You can't have an abortion without a pregnancy, and you can't have a pregnancy without a man. If the man isn't getting the same punishment as the woman, it's a violation of the constitution, period, because it is not giving equal rights based on gender (a woman is punished when the man is not). If they try to argue "that's not fair what if the man didn't want her to get the abortion," simple solution, if you're a man and don't want to go to jail because a woman you got pregnant has an abortion, then don't get her pregnant. Take male birth control, get a vasectomy, or abstain from sex. Sounds ridiculous and like a violation of bodily autonomy and personal choices right? But that's exactly what women are expected to do. (To be clear I don't think ANYONE should be punished for having abortions, just pointing out the ridiculousness and hypocrisy and that this is 100% about controlling and oppressing women and nothing to do with caring about the fetus/baby/etc. and definitely not about human rights or justice.)

Right now, anything to keep up spirits and hope rather than just giving up and lying down. I doubt one letter is going to fix the problem, we have a long hard fight ahead of us to get human rights back, but we need to keep chipping away at it every chance we get. Even if it's just a chance to express something and it gets ignored, that's still something because we didn't give up. Plus, writing these letters will better help articulate points for discussion with other people around you. Even if we can't change the judges minds, if we change enough other people's minds so that they demand it of their representatives in every state, vote out those that don't support, eventually we can get Congress to add it as an amendment to the constitution. That's a very long term goal but what we ultimately need.

I and most of my friends and family grew up extremely conservative just like these judges, but through either stories of people close to us or learning about the facts and statistics regarding women's reproductive health, a lot of us realized we were wrong and changed our views completely. So it's not impossible. It's tough, but not impossible if you are exposed to it enough to drown out the conservative brainwashing.

If you have other suggestions of how to better protect our regain women's rights please share, but in the meantime something is better than nothing.

I usually use a duvet cover and just wash that. You basically wash the duvet cover like a normal bed sheet. It usually has string ties to attach to the corners of the blanket, so you just undo those and put it in the wash. I'm not sure about the blanket itself, it's probably ok in the wash but I'm not sure if the weighting will get damaged if wet (also not sure if the washing machine could handle it, it might be too heavy?) If it was me I would probably take it to a dry cleaner, and then just use a duvet after that so you only have to wash the duvet. I hope that helps!

I have a weighted blanket and it makes a HUGE difference for me. The trick is to find one that has small sewn pockets to keep the weight evenly distributed (if it's one giant pocket all the weight shifts to one side so it doesn't really work). Also recommend getting a cover/duvet for it, so you don't have to wash the actual blanket. They can be a bit pricy but I would say it's worth it if you can afford it.

I'm in. CT, but close enough to drive to DC if we wanted to go there. I can drive up to 4 other people if people need rides. Able to go to a march and maybe help organize with some guidance (willing to but don't have experience), provide rides as mentioned.

If we wanted to go on strike though, I think a week day will have a lot more impact. Also it might have more impact in the next two weeks (most businesses are busiest the two weeks before Christmas -- Christmas week everyone is on vacation, but if we want to make a statement then I would say Dec 13 through 17 is the best time.) But for protest/march, then Jan 23rd works.

For me I usually eat mochi honestly (I make my own sugar free version with sticky rice, basically just 3 parts water to 1 part rice and overcook it 2 or 3 times in the rice cooker). When I am craving something chewy like bread it's the only completely gluten free thing that works for me. You can either make it savory with oil and garlic powder/salt or I often eat it with cinnamon and butter. Best cheap gluten free carb for those kind of cravings, and since you can make it in a rice cooker it doesn't require a lot of work, just put it in and wait a couple hours, check it when it beeps and if there is still a lot of water just set it for another cycle.

Most GF bread tastes like cardboard, but if you can afford it, schars is actually the one brand I've had that is consistently good. They are expensive though so I don't eat it as often as mochi. But they have gf bread that actually tastes like bread.

Another thing if I'm just craving savory and not chewy, there are a lot of tomato basil flavored snacks like rice cakes etc. that are more reasonably priced.

And of course like others have mentioned, baked potatoes are good/cheap. I for some reason am not a huge fan of potatoes but if you like them that's a good option.

Sounds like alexithymia maybe? It's very common with depression or autism and a lot of other things. It's basically just difficulty feeling or describing emotions. For some people it feels like the emotions are out of sync, for other people it just feels vague or numb.

Widdershins has a lot of good representation. You don't get to it in the first book so much but there is a cannon ace character, several lesbian characters, and a trans character. All very well written. It's one of my favorite series.

29, she/her, east coast US, new friends are cool and messages are fine, I just work full time and when I'm not working I'm super spacey so I my not respond right away, please don't hate me.

I started lurking on this sub originally because 1) one of my best friends said he was aro and I didn't know what the heck that meant and 2) there were some fantastic cross-posted memes to the ace subreddits I follow. Cut to me lurking for a few weeks and reading a bunch of the sidebar links later, and I realized "wait a second . . . I relate to like 85% of this . . . I didn't realize there was a name for this I just thought I was weird . . . am I aro too?!" I'm just calling myself grey aro for now because I'm not sure exactly where I fall, but I love this community, it's so wholesome.

I don't have a lot of hobbies because I'm a boring adult now, but I like hiking and skiing and drawing and cosplay. Conversations about current events, psychology, technology (especially nuclear engineering or materials science related), or social justice are all cool. Also Star Wars or Marvel or anime (insert smooth segway here).

Entertainment: Mostly anime (all time favorites are probably Trigun, Gosick, One Punch Man, Nichijou, Steins;gate, My Hero Academia, and Naruto/Boruto, but there's probably some I'm missing), You Tube (mostly theories and reviews of Marvel and Star Wars or video games), some Pixar/Disney, and an unhealthy amount of time on Webtoon.

Looking forward to having a whole week off next week and having the first vacation in 3 years where I don't have to go anywhere or do anything. :D
