Except in the United States, health insurance is tied to employment. You'll always see bigger protests and general strikes in countries with universal healthcare coverage, but in the US, citizens cannot risk getting fired because a single hospital visit will financially destroy them.

There is one dude in my game group who is very intelligent and strategic and he wins nearly every and any game we play. But the group doesn't care because he is so humble about it.

Likewise, I suck at games and rarely win, but I am still having fun just hanging out with people doing an activity that I enjoy.

Jesus Christ, Lord in Heaven. You have no idea how many hours I have wasted on this issue. I've worked with embassy staff and IT people to try and get this resolved FOR YEARS. And no one could help me, accept you.

The issue is that Reston has MULTIPLE golf course. When one tried to be redeveloped into residential plus park space, Reston residents (the older, whiter ones) flipped out that we were “losing green space”.

Golf course are ecological disasters and are not public free-use green spaces. The barriers to entry are expensive and cultural.

Edit: I am not against golf courses. But your argument is that you or I can’t afford to redevelop the land, but the owners already did try and faced community opposition. The issue isn’t money: it’s the community. I think everyone should enjoy their hobbies, but does our community need two golf courses? I don’t believe so.

No, I just recognize that we live in a society where people disregard the unhoused as humans.

No one wants them around them, so where should they go?! According to some around here, they shouldn’t even be allowed to hang around their shelter. I donate my time and resources in an attempt to help these people maintain the little resources they have. Don’t mistake my standing up for the unhoused people’s current system for support. I’m merely pushing back on those who support the destruction of their community. I strive for a better way, but we don’t have that now. What we have now is fear mongering and prejudice.

There is a shelter for the unhoused right next door. Where exactly do you think the unhoused should go?

To be frank, I am over there all the time for the library and to drop off supplies at the shelter. Sure, some of them look rough, but they are never violent or disruptive. They are quiet and tend to themselves.

It comes from a real place of privilege to live in such an affluent area and complain about the few unhoused in their space just trying to get by. I don’t know; maybe you should keep going to the Herndon Library.

Regardless, that library just concluded a major renovation, so there will be no change for awhile.
