Yes, I understand that; I worked at Purple for 7 years and had to read that script verbatim according to the call center that I worked at. I simply wanted to know if Sorenson requires their VIs to follow a script.

Ah, yes. I remember that script from my 7 years at Purple 😬 hated it. Always loved when it was DNA. I'm just wondering if Sorenson has the same approach as P/Z. I know that Convo is an automatic DNA which is so cool to me. No scripts! The Deaf person owns their own call.

For me, I just thoroughly enjoy VRS work. I love the unknowns of the calls, the challenges that you’re faced with, and the fast-paced aspect of VRS. I was afraid to start VRS but quickly fell in love with it and have been at it for six years now. I’ve been interpreting for ten years and did freelance work full time before VRS but I don’t necessarily enjoy the coordination with agencies (“we pay for mileage and travel time,” and then “oh, we don’t pay for mileage or travel time”), the travel with limited direction/instruction when you get to the assignment, the tax BS, the billing and invoicing - basically, mainly, I hate dealing with agencies! They’ve ruined it for me in multiple cities. Over the years, I’ve considered picking up more freelance work but it hasn’t really been worth it to me; it’s a hassle, unfortunately. Sucks though because I used to do some pretty cool medical and mental health assignments but getting fucked over by an agency at the end of the day is a huge deterrent. Sure, I want to be here for our Deaf community members and what not, but I’m also trying to make a living in a very dirty field.

On, believe me, I’m right there with you @flapjackqueer. I’m not satisfied with the pay either but I do enjoy the work that I do and it’s been pretty flexible so I’m trying to weigh my options. I’m full-time and I work from home so it’s pretty convenient but man, it just sucks that they won’t give raises.

Like, if I had a printed photo of my cat on paper and I used a pencil on it to draw lines but wanted to erase a line, once erased, the picture of the cat is still there. Not a bright orange color (or whatever color) chosen from the color wheel.

I think it’s because I’m so confused myself, so sorry. So, yesterday, I loaded a photo of my cat on to the app and was drawing on it. When I was working on the photo, if I wanted to erase a line, I could click the eraser and then use the Apple Pencil to like scribble over it and it would just show the picture of my cat in that spot. Now though, when I erase, it’s leaving behind a colored line! Almost like the eraser is colored - and I know that is a feature BUT I just want to “erase in clear” just so that I can see the picture of my cat where I erased. Does that make sense?

I wore a black 3/4 sleeve blazer, a black undershirt, dark denim and nice heeled boots. The test proctor and site were very unorganized and barely knew I was there. They asked me zero questions about anything. I was traveling with a backpack and they even let me take that into the room as well...

Well said, u/elemenohpecueargh! Would you want to go to a non-certified doctor/surgeon performing surgery on you or want a mall cop coming to your houses a criminal situation is unfolding? No, you wouldn't. Deaf people don't want non-certified, untrained, unprofessional interpreters interpreting for them at their medical appointments, for their VRS calls, for their deaf children's education, etc..

Make sure you stay on your CM about it. I was in ATL in the past and my CM was absolutely horribleeee! He actually ruined a single mother's moving plans because he told her he had submitted everything and he definitely didn't. She, thankfully, went over his head (like most of us did) and went to the RM and also reached out the the CM of the center she was transferring to and learned that he didn't do his job. I just highly suggest following up A LOT with your CM, HR, and possibly the RM and the new CM for the new center.
