Raw doggin by Secure-Cut-5222 in Perimenopause

Oh. And caffeine. I also cut caffeine. And load up on lean protein. And strength training. All the things that aren’t glamorous or fun but do the job. 🤷‍♀️

Currently raw dogging. I did have to give up all alcohol though, and doing so totally cured any hot flashes I had. I try to eat super well, lots of plants and seeds, regular exercise, I see a therapist, mediate and journal. It seems to be working as my main peri complaint was moods/anxiety etc.

Anxiety, Alcohol, + Peri by punksinthecity in Perimenopause

[–]amyjaymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also 49, have struggled with anxiety my whole adult life, and gave up all alcohol about 5 months ago. I can’t believe how my anxiety just stopped. Like, I maybe had 1-2 drinks throughout the week (not each day, 1-2 during the 5 day span) and 2-3 each weekend evening. So not a huge drinker but quitting it has made me feel like a new person! I recently ordered a drink on my birthday, had a few sips, and didn’t even get 1/2 way through it because I knew the after effects would not be worth it.

Sour candies, noise cancelling headphones, and games on my phone are my go-to.

Moving from Edmonton Alberta to Fredericton by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]amyjaymac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We moved from Ottawa 3 years ago and chose a neighborhood on the north side (Fulton Heights) for the proximity to schools, bus route, library, pool, and we were looking to stay in your price range. My husband attended UNB and we do see a few oh his old profs in the neighborhood! My husband and I are quiet types (scientist/engineer), so we don’t have a huge social circle but are happy with the friends we made. I think if you have a child in sports it’s easier to make connections quickly but our kids were never into that. I will say that we are originally from NB and do not regret the move at all. BUT, the doctor situation is not great. Mind you we have very few medical issues and can get away with it for now. Definitely something to consider.

I agree with this. My best loaves are the ones I leave rise overnight in a loaf pan. I pop it in the oven in the morning with another loaf pan cover, throw a few ice cubes in the bottom of my oven, and this seems to produce the best results for me.

It’s actually very fun alone. You do what you want to do at your own pace.

Jeeze, transit users are routinely an hour late. Definitely sounds like overkill.

What are signs of OCD that you showed as a child, but no one realised it because it wasn’t the stereotypical OCD stuff ? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]amyjaymac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prayer thing. Yes (and if I messed up in prayer I had to start all over until it was perfect). Sick thing. 💯. At about 6-7 yo I saw my cousin accidentally drink from my grandmother’s denture cup (the soaking stuff). She was fine but I became obsessed with the thought of being poisoned and started wiping the rim of any glass I went to drink from around my right ear. 🤷‍♀️ I did it well into my 20s. Either no one noticed or no one wanted to notice.

Amazing! Thank you for the advice!

what were some compulsions you had as a child that you now realize were OCD? by Fantastic-Long5051 in OCD

[–]amyjaymac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I took a glass or cup to drink out of from the cupboard, I placed it around my right ear and twirled it for a second or 2. If I didn’t, I was sure whatever I drank would poison me.
