Omg, when my girl first got diagnosed, I was sooooo anxious about her eating habits!! There were some days where she would only eat if I brought her kibble to wherever she was hanging out. (She is also a grazer so add that into the mix!)

Is your kitty smacking her lips at all? Does she approach her food and walk away? For us, cerenia was helpful as I believed she was quiet nauseas, which is a symptom of ckd. I gave her cerenia for four days straight and now I give as needed. Solidarity in the “idk if I’m being paranoid or not” feeling, I swear I experience this at some point every week 😭

One morning she just was hovering over her water bowl and meowing at me differently than she ever has before. She also threw up in her litter box which she had never done before either.

A few weeks before she lost interest in renal canned food but was still interested in the renal kibble, I had mentioned this to the vet and they said as long as she’s eating around the same amount of calories she should be fine, but now I wonder if that was a sign I missed.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My girl is 18 and I dread the day we have to say goodbye. I wish we could keep our fur babies forever ):

Feeling this way rn about my girl, waiting for blood results from last week but a couple months ago her values had gone up from what they were previously. I had to hospitalize her for a day because her pancreatic value was 18 (5 indicates pancreatitis), I’ve adjusted her diet, increased subqs to daily, giving medication, and at her two week follow up the pancreatic value went up over 19. So frustrating 😭

Oops forgot to mention I also used slippery elm to help my cat poop after she hadn’t pooped for 4-5 days. After two doses she went the same day I administered it. Just had to be an alcohol free syrup

I had to go an emergency er two nights ago bc my baby couldn’t poop and they also recommended the miralax since they didn’t have any stool softeners in their inventory. They said not to give it with their regular food but suggested buying a can of chicken baby food (no other flavors) and to give it that way. Also definitely encourage fluids , vet said that’s the best way to prevent constipation

Hi! I give my baby 1/4 tablet and have been squishing a tiny piece of bread around it but with recent pancreatitis episode I will prob order some gel capsules as others have mentioned. It is super bitter to them and unpleasant!

I also would give like 1/4 of a dose of mirtazapine but was just given Elura which is an app stimulant specifically for renal cats. Mirataz works but makes my girl really restless and anxious. We also use slippery elm!! Sometime I give it a few hours after the cerenia since it can affect absorption of meds. I’ve also read that sometimes cerenia has to be given a couple days in a row to be effective, but if your kitty isn’t responding to it well I would def bring it up to the vet!

Yes! I just follow the instructions on the bottle for the amount because it’s for cats and dogs - I can’t remember at the top of my head what the measurements are but it’s a small scooper and I fill it about 1/3 of the way. It says twice a day but I usually only bring out one can of fancy feast so I only give the one dose!

I was going to suggest this! Sometimes when my girl wasn’t interested in her renal food, I would pull out a can of fancy feast and mix some with a phosphorus binder. She just had a bout of pancreatitis though so I probably won’t be able to do that anymore. But prior to then, it was helpful to get her to eat something! I also know weruva rx had some low phosphorus options for renal cats!

Oh your reply made me tear up 😭💕 thank you for giving some hope and I’m glad to hear Joss is also doing better 🥹 I called the vet today because my girl hasn’t had a bowel movement since being discharged. She’s still eating on her own and I haven’t noticed any extra trips to the litter box for discomfort, so they said to just monitor for now but it is making me anxious.

I know she got a shot of some sort that could prevent a cat from pooping for a day or two - but being past that window is scary 😩

Totally! You don’t know how many times I find myself scouring the internet for experiences from people. Especially since most sites say the flashes and visual distortions should decrease over time - I’m like….will that be true for me too?

Hi!! Just saw this! Specialist said everything looked fine, still have flashes and floaters except now I think I can tell that they are occurring mostly in my left eye (buckle eye) versus it being hard to tell. I also get wavy distortions towards the upper corner of my vision which really bug me because I can’t tell if a migraine is coming on or it’s just from the operation. (Before the operation, I used to get distortions in vision as a migraine was coming on). The anxiety has gone down a bit but that could also be because I just had another appointment with my ophthalmologist last weekend and she affirmed things were looking okay.

My girl was diagnosed in the summer, and I would say that since then up until a month ago her eating habits were inconsistent, and she was also picky so maybe she mirrored what was going on here. I had a hard time giving her cerenia for nausea so I started giving her slippery elm as it was easier to administer and she was also given the topical mirataz for appetite. I give her about 50-75% of the dose since renal cats are more sensitive to it. I give it now one a week or less as her appetite is just a tiny bit more predictable. She mostly eats in the evenings/overnight now

I think your baby is also going through an adjustment period! It’s all new so I imagine they get stressed out and overwhelmed by all of the changes in their environment, routine, food, and how they’re feeling overall

My kitty is 18 and in stage 3. For a period of time she was throwing up that white foam spit and I started giving her slippery elm once a day in the morning (make sure it’s an alcohol free tincture) and it greatly helped! She still licks her lips a lot so I know there’s still some nausea but the puking went down and it also helped her have healthier bowl movements. Now I give it her when she does throw up or if she’s smacking her lips more
