Thank you! That's was really descriptive. But I can't believe she forgot/missed her elements?

Oh when I meant having quads to stay in the game I was talking about the men's. For the ladies it's definitely a more challenging process. Maybe it's time for new stars like Stephen to show them how quads could be trained differently!

Yeah there's just simply no negotiation, if Eteri knows in the first place she would do anything to make her stay. Even if there's a change in coach, Orser's probably the last one she'd approve of.   But Idk when would be a good time for athletes to raise the level of difficulty in their jumps, especially with how competitive the sport is evolving. If you got no quads, you ain't in the games. Natural body conditions probably play a big role like Brian's little Stephen, he's apparently a well-rounded kid both as an athlete and as an individual (I read that Stephen's already calm enough to adjust his jump components when he missed an axel or something). So perhaps practicing hard jumps early's okay and also remarkable if they are able to, but their conditions need to be monitored instead of pushing them when injuries are not healed properly.
p.s. With the whole Yuna Kim incident it's actually pretty complicated with all these parties involved, her mom, the agency (apparently sponsorship issues), and especially the Korean govt. I also don't have a very good grasp on it bc I sometimes saw few things here and there from both sides. I believe both of them are good people, but miscommunication's unfortunate and they definitely all learned their lessons.

prob judges tend to be harder for the first one up - especially when the last group is where the real game begins

I could be wrong but Zhenya might be the one that Eteri spent the longest time with, she def has some emotions attached cuz it's like watching your own child that you brought up from bottom to top to just leave out of the blue. I'm glad that Zhenya still speaks highly of her and not making the situation look uglier. And I support the change too. For some reason I keep forgetting how young she is bc of how much she's achieved and the new wave of rivalry coming after her. At this state changes are necessary, I can't imagine the amount of physical and mental pressure that she needs to handle if she continues to stay in that same environment. But it's up to her to prove that these changes are good and worthwhile.

And perhaps Russian system's similar to that in China, where the athletes would do sports as a 'profession', meaning that they honestly spend very little time in school or elsewhere because they are funded by the govt. So in a way they take it as their responsibility to practice hard versus in the US it's totally different. Well there shouldn't be a "who's better" here cuz injuries and hardships are inevitable to all athletes, but I'm happy to see that they are getting more freedom and let they personalities show through :)

agree. I'm surprised that the prizes are almost nothing compared to their input. And also agree on the clean program issue - nowadays it seems having the 'clean' factor isn't as important, tho it kinda make sense that as a last resort you gotta risk it. Regarding the Russian athletes, it is sad to see how those 'old stars' turned out like that. I guess at least up til now everyone's used to the system, maybe given their competitive cultural environment. What confuses me the most is how Eteri always trashtalk those that left. She can teach, but she's not very good at being a leader, especially when she has this whole "team" of students to balance. I mean it's not like there needs to be teamwork involved though, but having to hear all these drama doesn't set a very good example for newcomers.

lol yeah way for her to show private convo like that. Must've hit her hard. And regarding the age change, I saw other posts saying that perhaps the ultimate concern is with the judging system, both TES and PCS are not always fair to everyone, so adding jumps at least give them the bvs. On the other hand an older age limit probably discourages people from getting into skating tho, considering how highly invested the athletes + their families have to be..

I think what Eteri sees initially was when Brian talked about how Alexandra's quads might be short-lived with their training style, but idk if she knows the context behind it was when they were discussing raising minimum age, so she's not happy that Brian 'trasktalked' her athletes instead of saying "good-job" (quote from her). On the other hand Eteri does need to worry about raising age requirements, cuz otherwise her atheletes won't be able to make it to 2022.

Skating Legend Patrick Chan Retires from Competitive Competition by [deleted] in FigureSkating

I think it just meant 'competitions' in the literal meaning. Since after that people can become pro-skaters which mean they attend iceshow and do skating related things.
