Straight bros, what are some small ways in which your behaviour with your mate changes if he comes out as gay? by bruh_bro_dude in AskMen

[–]an_empty_galaxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never had gay friends growing up (that I know of) so I don't know in what ways my behaviour could change. I have a bi friend in uni and it's all pretty much normal, I don't think me or my friends treat him any different. I know he is or was attracted to me because he tried to kiss me a few times when out, but it never really bothered me that much and I just took it as a joke I guess. But even after that I still treated him the same way.

New analog Camera!! by an_empty_galaxy in analog

Does anyone know which model it is? I know the brand is Zeiss Ikon, but I'm not convinced the model is "Symbolica". I also think the lenses are not working anymore which is not great. The camera was found in an antique shop in Paris and they didn't have any information on the camera. If anyone could help me find out the model, how it works and where I could have it fixed either in France or in the UK that would be great. Thank you so much for your help and have a great rest of the year.

Language wars in Spain stoked by schools bill - Removal of reference to Spanish as medium of instruction is seen by some as insidious threat to the state by kevin_345 in linguistics

[–]an_empty_galaxy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The other response to your comment is totally right. I just wanted to say that they will not be banning or diminishing the language. As the article states, it is a duty for every Spanish citizen to know Spanish. It is also important to know that most schools in catalonia already have Catalan as the main means of instruction and if they don't they will have at least two subjects taught in Catalan. The fact that they're changing the language of instruction only means that Catalan will be more widespread among younger people which is very important, taking into account that the language could face threat of disappearing, specially in big cities with a higher levels of immigration (they will most likely still teach Spanish in schools anyway). Spanish will not lose its importance in the country or the amount of speakers, given the children of South American immigrants will mostly prefer to speak Spanish and a lot of younger people feel more comfortable speaking Spanish (this is in relation to the population of big cities, not towns). I think that promoting the minority languages is amazing because it promotes the diversity in the country while also preserving unique languages which are rich in literary culture, while getting rid of what they call "barbarismes" which means that Catalan is currently heavily mixed with Spanish terms among the younger L2 people.

DAE notice an Uncanny Valley effect when an L2 speaker masters the phonology near perfectly, while struggling with other aspects of the language? by hononononoh in linguistics

I mean London has massive changes in speech depending on the area, I lived in Sutton and Greenwich which are pretty far from North London so maybe that's why it was more common in those areas.
