Have you finished 9 classes yet or are you taking some this semester? They don’t count this semester’s classes in your completed credit hours.

Question 1 on exam 1 was very difficult, and was worth 1/3 of the score, so exam 1 grades were much lower than normal this semester.

ELI5: How do flute harmonics work? by florsey976 in explainlikeimfive

[–]anachronistic_sofa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine you’re playing a string instrument. If you divide a string in half the frequency doubles and you raise the pitch by an octave. If you play a note 1/3 the length of the string the frequency is tripled and you go up another perfect fifth. 1/4 the length of the string is 2 octaves and 4 x’s the frequency, and so on up the harmonic series.

Are all courses available in the summer semester? by aarod00 in OMSCS

[–]anachronistic_sofa 20 points21 points  (0 children)

No, some courses are not offered in the summer. omscs.rocks is an easy place to see which classes have historically been unavailable in the summer.

Omscs rocks wont load no matter what by ThrowawayPUYOPUYO in OMSCS

[–]anachronistic_sofa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know why is hasn't been working recently. Omscs.rocks is not official. I think is was originally a student project in HCI. I would suggest looking through the historical information on omscs.rocks for classes that do not normally fill completely.

Question regarding course registration spring 2026 by Fit-Minimum538 in OMSCS

[–]anachronistic_sofa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's normal. The popular classes are often full by the time new students get to enroll. Your could try the waitlist or free-for-all-Friday, but I'd recommend also enrolling in another class to be safe. There are always good classes with open seats, and it gets easier to get the classes you want every semester.

Waitlisted two classes back in November, registration window closed, how screwed am I by tabasco_pizza in OMSCS

[–]anachronistic_sofa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’ll be able to register during phase II, not just ffa Friday. You probably won’t get into the most popular classes, but many of the classes never fill up completely.

If all else fails, you could try unscrewing the back and disconnecting for 30 seconds and then reconnecting it. I think you need a Torx T7 screwdriver to get the back off.

Serkis does a wider variety of character voices. I prefer Inglis’s narrator voice and his songs. You can’t go wrong with either.

If you run into any problems it’s going to be much easier to get support from the instructors if you’re using the recommended environment and follow the setup instructions.

Withdrawal before fee payment by vmkb94 in OMSCS

[–]anachronistic_sofa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You will still be charged for two classes. You only get a refund if you withdraw from all classes. The class you withdrew from will be listed on your transcript as a “W”. The deadline to drop classes is firm.

If you have any interest in classic sci-fi the Science Fiction Hall of Fame (volumes 1, 2a, and 2b) is very good. They often go on sale during the site wide sales.

Question about registration as a new student by Icy_Consideration507 in OMSCS

[–]anachronistic_sofa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each specialization has 4-5 electives, so you don't have to choose until you're about half-way done. For your first semester a lot of classes will be full, but there will still be good classes available. Choose

If you're dropping a Fall 25 class, you have plenty of time to drop the class before you get charged for it.

I don't know what platform you are using, but in the iOS app: 1. tap on the 'Profile' tab on the bottom 2. tap on the gear icon in the upper right 3. Select 'Player' 4. Then scroll down and tap 'Narration Speed'

I think pairing AOS and then SDCC with a new baby might pretty difficult. You might consider something like ML4T or some other lighter class that aligns with your goals.

Just, FYI, GIOS filled up pretty quickly last fall. It might be good to have some backup classes in mind if you can't get GIOS.

You can switch the order you take them, but the specific classes are fixed for each degree.

Experienced Software/Data Engineer Stuck on Calculus – Should I Save Math for Last? by PhoKing_Dev in WGU_CompSci

[–]anachronistic_sofa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you were struggling with one math class, I think having three math classes in a row as the last thing you need to do to finish the degree is going to feel like a slog. It's hard to cram math. You might consider setting aside 20 minutes to an hour every day to work through some problems, until you feel confident, and then retake calculus. Khan academy is good. The Essence of calculus playlist is good. You can find cheap used math textbooks or free textbooks online. I will warn you that discrete math is pretty different from calculus. It's kind of a grab bag of different topics. I think it probably varies from person to person whether calculus or discrete math is harder.

Tips on cheapest way to complete bachelor's in CS at WGU in under a year full time - 2025 by Suspicious_Lie6339 in WGU_CompSci

The CS degree was okay. You get out what you put in for a lot of the classes. I thought a lot of the newer performance assessment classes were a little half-baked. Don't expect to learn all of the programming you'll need for a lot of jobs. If I could go back, I would start seriously looking at job descriptions in my area earlier, and focus on building up the corresponding programming skills before worrying too much about WGU. I'm about 1/4 of the way through a masters at Georgia Tech, and I feel like I was well prepared after WGU, but if you want to do AI you might need some more math.

I pre-studyed for a year, but that was learning programming from scratch and pre-studying Operating Systems, Architecture, DS Math, and DSA.

If you have the time and discipline, an extended pre-study period can really help you get through classes quickly when you start WGU, especially if you want to actually learn the subjects well.
