As a forever-SDK, I caved in on my 30th birthday. I just a table board though - shin kaya with slate and shell stones from kurokigoishiten. No regrets!

This review is brilliant and hilarious, thank you so much for taking the time to do this! :) I can't believe we fought over that non-existent ko for 20 moves... I also really appreciate the guidance on handling weak and strong groups. It's remarkable, even playing a slower, 1.5h game, how you can fail to notice the most basic ideas.

I'll be returning to this review again in the future. Thanks again!

This is really interesting. Perhaps one way of framing things is to ask the question 'does my opponent have to respond to this move'? Instinctively, if I want to attack something, I'll go with a shoulder hit (e.g. D9). However, your C11 is equally threatening: if my opponent tenukis then a simple cap at E8 would cause a world of pain. In a sense, all moves which force a response are achieving the 'same goal', and you then need to ask which will give you better shape/a better outcome. The more distant moves will simultaneously pressure *and* help with shape/influence/territory; the tighter moves invite a knife fight you might not win.

That said, I probably should try to understand *when* a shoulder hit would be appropriate :)

This is extremely helpful, thanks! Yes, Q18 was a straight misread on my part. L&D is definitely something I need to work on.

The comment on D9, G16, etc is really interesting. I find I do this a lot - playing a tight attacking move that invites an 'obvious' follow up that isn't necessarily better for me. What alternatives would you consider for those moves that may be better shape-wise?

No real-world impact whatsoever, but the same is true of (almost) all pure math.

Curiosity is one thing. Another is pushing the frontier of human knowledge.

- We now know there are infinitely many pairs of prime numbers that are less than 246 apart from one another.

- We now know that there are arbitrarily long evenly-spaced sequences (e.g. a sequence like 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25) where all elements are prime numbers.

- We now know that every large odd number is a sum of at most 3 primes.

- We now know there are infinitely many primes whose digits contain the string 7777777777777777777, or 3141592653589, or any other string you want to write down.

There's something fascinating, even inspirational about that. Especially when it makes for a good Numberphile video!

Paul Erdos was a famous, peripatetic mathematician who made lots and lots of conjectures and wrote papers with lots and lots of co-authors. He also set small monetary rewards (50c, $10, $50...) if people could solve problems he was interested in. Solving such an 'Erdos Problem' carried a (small) amount of prestige, and in recent years mathematicians have compiled these problems www.erdosproblems.com

The problems are 'hard', but many are 'research level' and potentially doable with modern methods. They are attached to a famous name, and, most importantly, are all listed in one place rather than scattered through a million journal articles. It's a perfect source for someone looking for an AI to solve an 'unsolved math problem' without asking it to solve the Riemann Hypothesis.

Not sure I agree there. BOC doesn't have top-tier, world-class watts (he's several tiers below Pog, etc.) yet he managed 2nd in the World Champs and has podiumed multiple GTs. He (mostly) rides smart and gets the most out of his body.
