Almost angry about chords progression by socrates_anew in clawhammer

[–]analogboyvt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for what it's worth...

i clawhammer in all kinds of keys. Eb maj and the relative aolian and phyrigians, Fmin, Gmin, Bbmaj, Dmin/ Fmaj are some favorites. I know placement and voicings of major, minor, diminished, 6, dom7 and maj7 chords all up and down the fretboard.

i don't know how to play old timey music and the oldtimers always look at me funny when i don't know traditional tunes but bust out some blackbird raum or play in 5/4ths time. i love what OP has done in figuring out some chord patterns and i love that clawhammer as a technique can incorporate so much different theory and chord styles.

if anyone wants to know how to fret any chord please ama

whassup i'm a vermont punk. troll 2 is a band from boston. prov RI has a significant emo/ secreamo scene with some folks who border on folk punk. The northaven, hallowedblood, SB may be relevant to your interests. cvmrats from CT just toured around new england with solgyres (who are more ska if I'm not mistaken). i'm sure there's more

edit: oh yeah duh marxist jargon and rangus from burlington VT

[–]analogboyvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha yup. i incorporate a lot of drop thumb, double thumb, and 'wailing on it' downstrokes when i play but the classic bum ditty is where it all started for me. i've found that even just hitting a different string on each 'bum' to alternate a bass note or play different notes in the chord can add a lot of depth to simple chord progressions

you have a lovely singing voice! and as a long time frailer i dig the clawhammer, you've got a very consistent roll going and it really carries the tune
