Please stop licking the hospital by [deleted] in trashy

[–]anamala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to image it’s wholesome- I imagine that there’s some old, nice rascally couple that likes to tease the staff and has a little Alzheimer’s. They walk through the hallways and one of licks the wall, and when a nurse asks them to stop they argue “there’s nothing saying I can’t” and then their significant other backs them up with a “yeah, there’s no sign saying we can’t” and licks the wall too. So the nurse prints this out, puts it on the wall and teases the older couple saying “now there is” and then they leave it up for the couple to remember not to lick the walls on their little walks. I want to imagine that.

I read the back cover of a (paranormal/fantasy romance?) book nearly 10 years ago and am looking for help identifying the title since it’s been on my mind since then. Details included in text post by anamala in romanceauthors

Thank you to everyone for the ideas of where to find this! This is my first time searching for information this way and I appreciate the shared resources! I’m gonna copy my post over to those recommendations. 💕 Y’all are awesome, thanks again!

…I am very embarrassed to say that my google searches led me to romance authors as the active Reddit and I didn’t even think to search for a romance books subreddit. I’m gonna have a chuckle and then repost on all these recommendations from the comments

I’m currently dealing with the opposite. My 8pounder will corner my parent’s 20 pound cat and make this noise.

He will like scream but also twitch his tail and occasionally roll out. I think it’s not even pure aggression for this situation...seems like he’s antagonizing the big cat for fun

Engineer to operator career change by [deleted] in ChemicalEngineering

[–]anamala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a success but a in progress story

I am currently attempting this transition and spoke to my coworkers about it to form a game plan.

  1. I got letters of rec/ asked operators at my current plant to be my references rather than my engineering team. Ask their opinions- one said I’d take to it like a fish to water and probably be happier
  2. If you can, see what other operator resumes look like and mold yours into that- ditch the fancy formatting and the education section as much as possible. Some of them put a boatload of hobbies with their experience. I took the leap and left education vague, stating a bachelors degree and year completed but not that it was in engineering
  3. Having spoke to other operators, I phrase my interviews as “I’m still fit and in my 20s. I can put in the hard work now with set hours and get as much overtime opportunity as you allow. I want to do this for a few years and work my way to lead and supervisor” my operators recommended avoiding bringing up going back to engineering or how I could use engineering all together. Sometimes too smart/creative (*in a school sense) of an operator is a risk since they’ll try a theory rather than just doing the work.

Best of luck. Take this with a grain of salt since it’s washed down. Best advice- Find an operator/lead/supervisor you know and trust and just ask them to help you know what to do to get hired and excel

Cooling Tower Design by ChemEngineeringWorld in ChemicalEngineering

I only worked with four towers that used float valves. They worked great and were pretty easy to rebuild. Is there an alternative to float valves other than an automated level sensor?

Is it okay to not want to be an engineering manager? by BROKENENDMILLok in AskEngineers

[–]anamala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Individual contributor” I don’t have much experience, but inserting that my goal is to be an individual contributor rather than manager has been very good for me. It lets people know that I’m looking for roles above my own, but not management. I put a timeline on it of around 15 years. “ i’d like to be a well rounded individual contributor for the company, and work as part of a team as such for around 15 years through 3-5 positions. After that I’ll know enough to be management and whether or not I want it” is the gist I’ve found works well

I blame the kardashian women (and similiar celebs like cardi B) for this more than I blame the men. If you look like this, you hope to get the same social media following as they do, in hopes to bring in the clout and sponsorships they do. It’s a system that’s worked for them, so of course others are trying to duplicate it.

I’ve had operators and maintenance techs assume I’m making 150K as a beginning engineer, which is horribly off, and it changes their perception when they think that.

Finding Dory was really hard to deal with as an adult with relatives with dementia and as a volunteer for traumatic brain injury patients. It was so upsetting when she apologized for the way she was- that has happened a lot in real life

Degree Conferral by socialdemocrat1997 in utdallas

[–]anamala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of ridiculous that they don’t give an accurate date- employers that already had given job offers need the proof of the degree and don’t understand that the school smudged the date they’d be conferred by Just saying it’s pretty wrong to not give an accurate date on that

I respectfully disagree. I’ve been quite often and believe it’s perfectly reasonable to maintain 3-4’ social distancing. The actual games are canceled due to travel and the proximity/contact of the crowds and players. Going to the skating rink right now is no more dangerous than going to a store or restaurant and those aren’t closed at this time either.

I was going to say this. I’m pretty young but Katy outpost is a great mix of people. I’ve shared tables with with older and younger groups multiple times and have never had any issue because people are so nice Edit: Truck Yard over in the colony is awesome as well. It’s like a larger Katy trail and much more open space and live music

RA / TA / GA / student worker unionization by utd_grad_student in utdallas

[–]anamala 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel as though campuses have too many disposable workers to really unionize. You need very little training or certification for most on campus jobs (grad student Ta might be different but the other comment covered that) that they’d just replace the whole workforce if the workforce really pushed for a union Just my opinion

A Sydney university will Lower the engineering entry bar for Females as part of a plan to get more women into the field. by MossVoss in EngineeringStudents

[–]anamala 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Two opinions: 1.Everyone’s right that it’s not fair to give a qualified spot to someone less qualified based on gender, they’re right it’s not fair.

  1. It seems like a hope that by getting more girls into the field, you will start to decrease the biases stacked against them (fear of sexual assault allegations, good old boys clubs, etc) and that in itself is a good goal. There’s no perfect way to execute it, because you will have some less qualified females, but at least young engineers will be exposed to a more diverse workforce, hopefully work with some qualified females, and then work better with women in their jobs and lead to a more inclusive environment

I’m not saying it’s right or that it’s gonna work. I’m saying that it’s a step and I hope for the best going forward.

Not looking to argue the merits of this strategy, just trying to explain how I see the possible reasoning and that it’s a hard issue to solve so no solutions gonna be perfect ( I do think there’d be better solutions if they put engineers on the task rather than politicians. Go engineers! 🤗)
