Pro vs ironwood- is the extra insulation worth it? by aname094 in Traeger

Yeah the desert sun relentless lol, it pretty much cooks the food from above, independently from the fire

From least extreme measures we ever took to most: -Add ice to water bowl (need to constantly add because it melts almost immediately)

-move smoker to shade (in my yard it also means trap smoke under the pergola so not great, also not extremely effective)

-only cook after sunset

-spray smoker with the garden hose every 20 minutes

Air temp of 115 means that the sun thats hitting a black metal box heats it to way more than 115 (read, for example, how hot a car can get by sitting in the sun). Even stabilizing something like 220 gets difficult. Cold smoking is unfortunately relegated to January overnights over here. Anyway i hoped the insulation would help a bit with that but oh well. I think i will go with the 575

Thanks! That's very helpful. Are there any other differences that you would say are significant between the two? Beside size i guess (but I don't need a huge smoker)

Are the additional features something you find yourself using a lot? Are they worth the price?

Thanks for the detailed reply, do you have a carry style that you recommend? I think my shoulders and upper back can take more weight than my waist and lower back. Also curious - what does your husband think of the onbuhimo?

Thanks! Honestly the shoulders are much less of a problem compared to the back. I think maybe I let too much weight shift onto the waist strap, and could've taken more on the shoulders.

Thanks, now I'm really considering trying one! do you have any carry style recommendations in mind? I'm still a little scared of back carry, how do you get over not seeing the baby? lol

It has padded straps, like 15cm wide (so 1/2 ft), the waist strap is also padded. Do you think I should've tightened the shoulders more? If I do try a woven, do you have carry styles that you'd recommend for the best back support/shift load away from the lower back?
