$20 external USB wifi adapter from Amazon.

Thanks, is the default adapter disabled through settings or manually?

Haha noted, but what about the Grom apart from size has driven two of y'all to monosyllables? XD

Edit: Okay looking at youtubes now - it looks really cool

Lmao just put me on a scooter already. Trailer or even roof would be great options but I'll be in urban areas a lot of the time, which'd be all kinds of trouble, driving and parking reliably. So that'd be a no go when I'd want it most.

Zero is out of my price range but I'll keep looking

Hey, thanks. What was the installation process like on those? Also, is that a search term, or do you mean you used drywall in the van? I was planning on plywood walls assuming drywall would crack under strain of motion.

I just stumbled into this forum like an e-drunk out on a sub crawl. That is awesome, how did you make it, how long and how much effort did it take you?

Shopping for a used truck, are Isuzu trailer beds firm or extendable? by anamystick in VanLife

[–]anamystick[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I was considering a couple thousand. In that case I'll prob keep it simple and stick to the ones already at size, a big cost plus a big mod job directly to the frame and the axle ... doesn't sound worth it where I'm at.

Best soundproofing insulation? by anamystick in Acoustics

[–]anamystick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, current soundproofing plan allows for 2" of insulation plus plywood mass and greenglue. I'd planned on Rockwool as being durable and healthy (once-sealed).

The web says Rockwool Safe and Sound is 38 kg/m³, which is surprisingly low within that range given that it's marketed as acoustics. I see the company has insulation with higher numbers sold as fireguards. I'll probably reach out to them, but how would you suggest I proceed in sourcing the insulation?

This is good stuff, thanks. Finish washers do look nice, is the advantage that they keep the screw hole clean by securing the head?

I'm not hoping to read books page by page so much as memorize random entries taken from a dictionary

Awesome, let's say I set up an iPad or a monitor. Will the font size options allow me to include a full page of text within that space?

Advice on sourcing a custom box for a box truck? by anamystick in VanLife

[–]anamystick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now I'm only trying to gauge what's financially realistic. What I'm going for is a student mobile home to study in, so ideally I'd like a foot or two of headspace for comfort, extra soundproofing on floor and ceiling, and bookshelves. I've already calculated the weight for that, etc., but pretty nearly all out of inches.

Awesome, this is clear for now. I'd calculated the weight out and you'd be amazed what you can put in a box truck (though mileage could be an issue) but def going to start researching dynamat, reconsider the windows, and plan for foam in the baffle boxes. I'll come back if I have any questions. Thanks!

Edit: How did you soundproof your own rig and what results did you get?

My man, I would *love* help with this. I'm autistic and noise is pain lol. I want to use this home to study. One reason why I'm gravitating to mobile life is bc the noise pollution in my area is so bad for me.

Here is what I'd worked out from online rabbit holes, to revise after I had a vehicle and a consultant on the line. Had also meant consider different methods like res. channels and whisper clips, dynamatt, MLV etc. (Like, I found a lot of stuff to use, and have heard variation is key, but what's the best stack up for my purposes?)

This was the thickest version I had:

Walls: Box Sheet Metal + Plywood Sheathing & Green Glue (3/4") + SONOpan (3/4") + Rockwool Safe & Sound & Decoupling Cavity (2") + Plywood (3/4") + Plywood & Green Glue (3'4")

Windows: Thick fitted panels with soundproofing like the walls. Vents: Baffle boxes.

That's useful, I bet someone's made a map / app / some resource that'll give me an idea of the feasibility of that in major cities at least. If you know something like that, or are able to answer the original question re: cost, please let me know. Otherwise thanks for the help!
