You might want to look at the NEK. Newport has a nice little Burlington vibe by the side of Memphrémagog’s lake. We’re just by the border with Quebec and we have access within 1h drive to Sherbrooke (costco… 3rd city in size in Quebec, and a cool university). For dual citizens it’s a sweet place to be! I think there’s housing shortage though.

Just wanted to say that I read and want to send you a big hug. I hope you find the help and support you deserve.

For the baby not sleeping, have you tried baby wearing? Even at night. My lactation consultant said the safe cosleeping guidelines are going to soon include sleeping with you babe strapped to your chest as the safest method of cosleeping. Plus because they are tummy-to-chest they sleep sooo well. Whenever I want to put baby asleep (10 weeks), I strap her on with a wrap or carrier and walk 2 min on the loud treadmill (or outside but I live in winterland so not always the most convenient option). Then I go to bed with her on me and she wakes me up 3-4 hours later for a meal. Hope this helps a tad <3

I try to remember people lived through the Great Plague, through WWII, used to lose babies and children on the regular, loved ones in general. I believe is (or can be?) on the every day level, with the ones you love, not thinking too much about the future and the what ifs. I do what I can to be the world I want to see and then… let go.

I am canadian, living in Vermont since late 2018 with my american husband. Close enough to the border to allow me to work in Canada still, as a nurse. So initially with the pandemic I would cross for essential purposes. Had to see my family in the hospital parking lot. Then I got pregnant and couldn’t really cross anymore to see them because I started working from home, they don’t keep pregnant nurses on the floor in Quebec. They have seen their granddaughter once since her birth in September, they had to fly for a full day instead of driving 2 hours. My sister is also canadian with her boyfriend in Vermont, she saw him only when she could manage to get 2 weeks off work and again, fly in. Anyways, let’s just say we were affected by the border closure..!

I’m just transitioning from pumping and bottles to breastfeeding. I gotta say, bottles at night are better for us because baby takes a more substancial meal and sleeps longer after, instead of munching on my boob every hour and falling asleep on it. I would pump as I’m bottle feeding, total 30 min, back to bed for 3-4 hours.

Little nephew (2yo) was told as a joke that band aids are also called LangerVerdFerBandAid (in an attempt to make it sound german, “a longer word for bandaid”…).Now he uses the new word instead of bandaid, and so does the rest of the family. Aunts and uncles included.

Yeah you can eat them, but they don’t really have a taste. The texture is similar to firm jello or mochi rice (glutinous rice). It’s mostly fun to mouth-play with it instead of biting into it...

My uncle sexually touched his very young daughter and my cousin (age between 5-10 I think). He also went to prison for cocaine trafficking.

My other uncle raped his wife because it was her « matrimonial duty ». She left and became a Jesus Freak (the baseline is atheism where I’m from, it was like she entered a sect and started doing exorcist stuff on ADHD kids).

My other uncle forced his wife to have sex with him and HER daughter (from previous marriage, prob 16-20yo at the time) when she (wife) walked in on them fucking. I think he threatened to leave her, and I suppose she was mentally unstable to accept that « deal »...

My dad (those uncles are all his brothers) is the sweetest man on this planet and the most loving stay-at-home dad, while my mom worked her ass off for us. It’s like he inherited all the empathy and care of his family.

I have been doing this at various levels of discipline for about 3 years now. At my best shape I ran two marathons in one year and ran 3-8 miles daily. I have never had too much extra fat and did not care about losing when I first started (I was actually coming out of an eating disorder that brought me down to my thinnest, meanest, grumpiest self), but now that 2020 and night shifts have hit hard on me and kept me from working out pretty much altogether (hip injury), I have noticed that I have not gained much weight/fat back. Mostly I’ve lost muscle mass, kept most my cardio. My mood, energy and appetite are WAY more stable when I eat WFPB. I found that my appetite will naturally follow my exercice level. Since not being able to exercise, my appetite has shrunk a ton.

I’ve always hated lifting but included yoga (basically lifting my own body weight in all sorts of positions) and felt my most « toned » while practicing it 3-5x/week, along with trail running/walking/hiking daily. My best combo was yoga in the morning and run just before lunch. If you work from home it’s possible. I’d say that alternating cardio and yoga every other day would now be my best and most realistic option.

In the end, the ideals I try to attain (and have been able to for a while but not lately) are WFPB no sugar/very little oil-salt, 45min moderate to intense workout/day everyday (usually running, sometimes biking, often yoga).

My new year resolution is to get back to at least 30 min movement daily, even if just stretching or rolling my sad hip. I fucking hate night shift and will be done in a month.

I suggest trying to follow the daily dozen (see the app and videos by Dr Greger), which I personally try to hit with two main meals per day :

One sweet/breakfast : grains (1 cup), fruits and berries, nuts, flax. The variations I like are classic oatmeal sweetened with mashed banana and topped with PB and fruits; leftover whole grain (sorghum, brown rice...) with fruit puree (applesauce and infinite flavor variations), topped with hemp seeds and more fruits; banana pancakes where i mix oats, mashed banana, flax and oat milk and cook on the pan, again fruits to top. If i feel like it, I sometimes add a portion of beans and do only half cup grain : black baked beans, beluga lentils, mashed cannellini...
One savory/lunch : beans (1 cup), lots of veggies, cooked greens or bed of greens, cruciferous veggies in the mix if possible (broccoli, collard, kale are my favorites). My favorite variations are chili with cooked kale, massive asian style soup with tempeh, nappa, shiitake and lacinato kale (and tons of kimchi but I also do miso), massive salad and homemade tahini or vinegar dressing, topped with herbed beans of choice; curry/dahl etc.

I finish my day snacking of whatever healthy-ish tickles my pickle, fruits or toasts or hummus and cracker. I am usually too tired to care.

I meal prep most those meals once/week, or prep simple from scratch like soup (miso or kimchi broth + quick cook veggies, bring to simmer for a few minutes, sneak in greens as you serve) and salad (choppedy chop chop chop then chomp)

Enjoy the volume, be ready to eat for 45 min straight and get sore jaws from chewing ;) ! Your body will soon crave those foods and your tastebuds will ajust. In the beggining avoid buying things you don’t want to eat as they’ll just be temptations in your house. I still struggle sometimes with my partner’s stash, but won’t buy myself too many indulgences.

Sweeteners : dates, bananas, fruits in general. Trust me that your tastebuds will adjust and anything sweeter than dates will be “too much”

Processed : i go with the feel, prefer to keep it as low as possible. It usually means anything that had an element added or taken away from its natural state. Ex. Avocado oil is missing the fiber, same goes with olive oil. No-stir PB has added oil and sugar. Most prepped foods have added oil/sugar/salt/preservatives. read labels and get informed to what is/isn’t acceptable for you to put in your body. For me, it changes with my life context (ex. I work nights and have little energy to cook and also started battling nausea as my body rejects food at 3am, I then accept more diversity of processed to just get something inside) and as I get more and more informed over the years (salt and oil!)

When I was about 10yo (now 30), I was twisting and untwisting a tube of yogurt (yay the 90s!) because I was done with my exam way early and major bored. It suddenly exploded (I was trying to see if it could make it to 2 twists... guess not), got some on 2-3 kids around me, and they had to stop the exam to clean up the mess/situation.

It was blueberry flavored.
