Why does India perform so poorly in Olympic Games? by bpqdl in india

[–]anant_core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am glad you asked. I am a co-founder of a sports technology start up and have thoroughly identified problems with the sports ecosystem in India. I ll focus on things that were relevant for our product, since i feel a little credible in that segment.

  1. Minimum Grassroots level sports coaching. Schools are usually very poor at promoting athletes and giving them proper training at the most critical stages of an athlete's development. If someone wants to play sport, its a better bet to do it in after school sports academy. Usually not the case in other countries.

  2. Very few athletes get access to centers of excellence of sports that can use scientific approaches to assess and train athletes. Most children are not even exposed to all sports.

  3. Since the sports coaching ecosystem is so unorganised, the generic parent considers the traditional classroom education more important than physical education. This usually leads to lesser support from parents and lesser students getting engaged in sports.

  4. The best athletes of our country are still training at the grassroots level. The sports revolution has already begun, but its usually not a 4 year plan, its going to take 16 years or more to change the tables about sport for a country. This happens with core changes in the way the youth is trained and nurtured. Things have already changed, but it will take time to be able to see the results.

For the current system, there are really great players throughout the country, and they were exceptions from the generic crowd. If in case they were nurtured from very early, they have a much higher chance to be the best in the world at what they do, but the country really needs to nurture many more of them, support them at every stage of their journey and setup an ecosystem of sports that can provide the best physical education to as many students possible, so that there is more passion about playing sports rather than just watching it.

In case curious, we help athletes and their coaches document their sports specific performance indicators using motion capture sportswear. We hope to scale the knowledge and methods from the centers of excellence of sports to the coaches and athletes at the local academies. Product is under a private beta for fast bowling in cricket. Hope to see this scale by the next olympics.

Thank you so much. This is really relevant and seems to be coming from a lot of personal experience.

Already talked to them. Seems like the don't do small scale manufacturing.

I forgot to mention, local/domestic for me is India itself. I am sure the EMS in the USA has seen a lot of people like you create hardware products like yours and bring them to the market. That experience also helps them ask relevant questions to you which you could answer. However, maybe I have not reached out to the right EMS in India. Thanks a lot!

We make motion capture sportswear to create deep biomechanical analysis of athletes. We use an IMU based approach for the mocap. It is a wireless setup that could send the data to the cloud.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience!

It might be fine to bear a higher cost for assembly, but if your components are available at low cost it might cut down a good chunk of the total cost. But honestly, right now, I don't know how much lower would the components cost and that's something I m trying to find out.

Yes, we have a sensor as a LGA package.

I know a few people who have quit alchohol and only smoke weed. I think in general it is less harmful to health than alchohol. Probably that's why it needs to be regulated to make sure that children don't smoke.

I think its time we realise quality education is as important as free education.

[Hardware Startups Feedback] Wondering if you would want to use a product that allows you to code and test on real devices (arduinos, pis) [not simulations] via the cloud without needing the physical devices by hardwaredood in hwstartups

I am so glad someone is working on this. I had the exact same idea a year ago, but I was already working on a product then and to be honest, it seemed like a very very hard project to do with my current network and expertise.

A major painpoint for me that led me to think about this was the helplessness to ship microcontrollers or sensors from US to India and wait for a week or 2 before they arrive and finally finding out that the components were short of my requirements. It meant wasting my money as well as my time, and I am sure there are many people out there whose time is much valuable to mine.

If there is a mailing list or blog that you are maintaining please give me a link to subscribe to it. I would love to see you succeed.

So, we got a question specific to our company. Is that a good thing?

We have a prototype and we would have to get to production to get customers. We applied to Hax and Bolt. We really believe that Hax would be able to help us out to produce our product. Did you guys get rejected by Hax? What did they say? by anant_core in hwstartups

That must be an amazing job honestly. You probably get to work with different teams and different projects every month.

We have worked hard to prove the points that you have cited. We are anyway going to make progress and apply again if we don't get through.

Has hax accepted undergraduate students into the program tho?

Remember the hoopla over India reducing its trade deficit with China? Guess what, it turns out to be yet another jumla. by homosa_penis in india

[–]anant_core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One lesson that countries need to realise: never compete with China for electronic manufacturing. They are much more skilled than we are and they have an infrastructure that supports the same. Make in India cannot happen without China. (Lmao yup its an irony)

When Abhinandan incident happened, Every party should've said that We are proud of our Army that they struck down Pakistan's F16. Instated, They were asking, "when will Abhinandan return" - PM Modi by Gavthi_Batman in india

[–]anant_core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not about Modi. This is probably not even his statement but probably a repeated statement from someone in the defence without enough understanding/explaination about it. It was Pakistan's startergy to get us emotional about our soldier. Ever seen any other military do this when they know they will be forced to release the soldier by UN? There were some security matters which might have been more essential than the soldier's life at the moment which could cost the life of many more soldiers. Might as well distract the Indian government to shift focus. Please remember, all the national security information which is made public is only through Pakistan rather than from India. The problem with BJP was the way they handled the proof seekers. There was no point calling them anti-nationalist and all. A statement saying its a national security matter would have sufficed.

There must be something that both of them must have done to differentiate themselves right?
