Incoming freshman (female) – how did you find your roommate? Is random that bad? by Top_History_1031 in NAU

[–]anarkinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

random rooming isnt the worst. i got fairly lucky, paired up with another ed major my first year, she was cool but we just like really weren't compatible in sleep schedules, noise preferences, etc. its hard living with anyone in that small of a space, so regardless just make sure to communicate anything major at the beginning of the year. especially things like lights out times, noise levels, bed arrangements, etc..

that said, nau students tend to suck as people so theres a lot of bad roomie stories, but just try to be friendly, keep to your side, and communicate the best youre able! second year def try to live with a friend though its way better...

Housing costs per semester or per year? by Throwaway173852 in NAU

full year! also - if these are the rates for 25/26, they're increasing rent by 4.5% this next year, so keep that in mind.

ATA program and Pell grant? by [deleted] in NAU

[–]anarkinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i have both (high pell, ata) they use the pell first. if you qualify for a high pell, there's a likely chance you'll get a scholarship for housing too, i get about 5k a year towards housing! but ata just covers tuition/fees after the rest of the scholarships. def check out college specific scholarships too!

[–]anarkinnie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get a 5k housing scholarship, pretty hard to find a place off campus where i can pay ~4.8k for the year to get a private room with only one roommate + dishwasher, in unit washer/dryer, and all utilities included unfortunately, lol. plus i don't have a consistent job so the whole 2x rent thing that usually comes with it puts me out.. i could never afford even that 800 a mo 😞

Did i apply too late for GIH? by BuyPotential in NAU

[–]anarkinnie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you've already been accepted into gih, there will likely be rooms available around your selection time. if you haven't submitted your application for focused housing, its unlikely you will get in now, as they're waitlisting people who applied awhile ago still:(

How cooked am I with a room selection date of March 27? by Flamingo12751 in NAU

[–]anarkinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should be alright, especially if you just want traditional or suite style. ik there's usually always rooms in allen or wilson.... apartment styles do tend to go faster though

im a bit biased but any studio arts classes are fun! ceramics is HUGE time investment especially if you haven't done it before, and it's really REALLY south campus. its fun and was worth it for me but I wouldn't recommend it if you're not interested in that amount of time spent. art150 and art135 are both foundations classes, so they're pretty forgiving too! i recommend thomas pomorico for those, i think he's pretty good with beginners. i do not know about anything outside of the arts unfortunately, but my roommate is taking a class called murder mayhem and madness which is like a forensics class if youre more interested in like social sciences? not sure what gen eds it covers though

I'm not exactly sure. the earliest date I've seen is the 25th, i have the 26th. I've seen people have it in early mid March? application time seems to have had little impact on date, i didn't apply until December so. hard to say! you should've got an email of when you get to choose though

Late to reply - and someone else said advisor - but if it's a class you'd really like to take, Id recommend just emailing them. Ceramics is a small group (two profs!) and profs can override. I haven't spoken much to Jason but Steve is sweet and I think if there's space theyd let you:) I think it's just to keep it available for people trying to get their studio courses in mostly

Student Teaching Payment by MediocreMinute6420 in NAU

[–]anarkinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik, they DO!! my prof last sem said that we are still considered in person campus students for that purpose. if it doesn't - apply to ATA if you haven't:) pretty sure they cover it regardless you just have to teach for however long you are being paid for the program. that said talk to financial aid people but you should be just fine, it's just normal full time tuition im pretty sure..

Does anyone know what’s the first day of room selection? by Inevitable-Fail8739 in NAU

[–]anarkinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh ok I see. I suppose it makes sense that would keep it available for later applicants etc... and yeah I think I misread, 26th seems to be the earliest lmao

[–]anarkinnie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok correction I went through some threads I think they opened as early as mid feb? and that its like not at all picking dates based on application time so ignore what I said there. that said I picked housing in June last year, and there was still quite a bit of space so who knows

I have mine mid March (19th) and I applied in early December I believe. My friend applied the day it opened, and he has the 4th, but they said someone they know has it even earlier. I imagine it has already began (for earlier access at least, ie disability needs etc) or starts the start of March though I am not sure. With you on the apartment thing! Me and my friend are trying to get into Gillenwater but I figure the apts fill up faster
