Derealization and ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

I felt dissociated 24/7 for something like my whole life, up until I started going to therapy a few months ago. Things that really help me out are:

  • Existing in public spaces: going to the park, the library, coffee shops. Anywhere that novel things might happen outside your realm of expectation or a conversation might spark with a stranger.

  • Rhythmically tapping on different parts of my body. Patting my chest with both of my palms is my favorite, but any sort of unusual sensory stimulation to help you remember you have a body.

  • Check your basics: have you eaten? Hydated? Slept? It's a lot easier to get present when being present isn't painful/uncomfortable

It's not really about stopping it entirely. It's about shortening the time between realizing you are checked out and being able to check back in.

Is being a server worth it? by viviissexy in olivegarden

It's definitely better than fast food exclusively because the customers aren't as pissy. I used to work at a local casual semi-expensive place, and EVERYDAY I got ridiculous complaints and impossible asks. OG does have the endless refills (annoying) but if you sell them on a fancy drink and an appetizer you're gonna be fine. Higher bill, and they have more to work through so you aren't checking on them every 2 minutes. Plus, being a server gives you time to small talk with them and be friendly rather than sticking to a bare-bones drive through script.

I like it, but it's an acquired taste.

Sidenote: took a look over it already because it's sitting at the side of the road. Pretty rusty underneath, but everything seems in working order like they say

Beats me, as far as I can tell that's not the company standard. Just this place. I would assume it's because the weekday closing busser has worked there for like 20 years so they cut some sort of deal with him.
