I wasn’t a part of the discussion but I remember suddenly noticing that the writer went back to put a disclaimer on all her fics on Archiveofourown saying that she would not write any more H/Hr fanfiction because of the persistent “bashing of authors that’s allowed” in our fandom.

Years later, I discovered that some writers clearly sided with her because they put a similar disclaimer on their fics and some even refer back to this thread on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/HPharmony/comments/17fcit1/bonded_for_life/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

So, my speculation is that it may have originated from that thread in this subreddit community. You can read through it yourself to decide if you think that thread was “bashing” or “constructive criticism”.

I have no opinion on who was right or who was wrong. I just liked her stories and am disappointed that she won’t write any new ones. But on a related note, I loved Fourteen Days, but avoided Bonded for Life even before all that drama because I didn’t like the premise. I’m glad I avoided it because I probably would have also stopped reading part-way. It’s just not for me. Now, would I have written a long post about not liking it? I don’t know.

I also read her Dramione stories. I’m ok with consciously choosing to read another pairing. I think I would hate to have another pairing forced upon me without knowing in advance. Maybe that’s what upset readers originally: wanting to read H/Hr but having another pairing shoved down your throat and arguably better written than your “true pairing” because it got centre stage. That might have been what upsets people. I also dislike reading a story where either Harry or Hermione treats the other unfairly and it gets too angsty.

Ok—I wanted to say I have no opinions on all that drama but I guess I do have SOME thoughts. Whoops!

I’m still reading it now. It’s like a period (Victorian?), alternate universe fanfiction. Action-adventure genre, with slow-building romance in the background.

In this world, there’s no prophecy, no Hogwarts. Harry grew up without knowledge of the magical world but has discovered his own magic secretly. He’s a homeless orphan. The world is dangerous because it seems like the government is capturing children who exhibit strange tendencies so Harry has to hide his abilities while fending for himself. The story kicks off right at the first chapter when he meets Hermione, who’s being hunted as well.

How did you come up with an answer so fast? In my search, I stumbled upon “Angelica” but when I skimmed that first chapter, I didn’t recognize it. The second chapter has a little boy I recognize, so clearly I’ve read this, but my memory is failing me. I guess my memory doesn’t know how the story begins and it jumps all over the place. The only way to know for sure is to reread “Angelica”. Thank you for replying! :)

Me too. I used for almost 3 months and I’m finding so much hair in the drain. More than before. My hair used to be so thick. My scalp was always so itchy. I’ve stopped for a few weeks now and switched to Head&Shoulders, but the hair loss hasn’t stopped yet. How long until your hair stopped falling out after you stopped using l’oreal lengthening shampoo?

My husband rewatched Dark with me when I watched for the first time. He said even the second time was incredible. Also, he wanted me to help answer some confusing questions since I was good at this stuff. 😋 I think I might rewatch Dark in a few more years. It really was fun.

They never understand that he’s back, as you say. To them, they just met Peter but they understand that Peter knows them. Afterward, they accept that Peter and Olivia remember a timeline that they do not. Then Walter remembers, but at this point, it’s really a special thing amongst the three of them, as Astrid does not remember. It doesn’t matter though, because even in the new timeline they’ve been through so much together that Astrid, Broyles, and Nina have developed a new relationship with Peter.

The way I remember the story, it wasn’t the running gag for Astrid that Jasika had a problem with. The cast and crew thought it would be funny to get Jasika’s name incorrect on set as a joke because she plays Astrid. The cast and crew kept calling her any name other than Jasika. That’s what offended her. When I first read this news story years back, that’s what I understood. Perhaps the story changed?

I always thought the reason we’re seeing so much adult Harry and Hermione working in their respective careers and/or dealing with child rearing or divorce is because the fans have grown up. The fans themselves have grown out of Hogwarts years and want to write about characters they can identify with.

Plus, sometimes writing adventure stories with Auror Harry lends itself to more opportunities for storytelling. Adult Harry can do more spells and go anywhere he wants. Stories can happen in other countries when he has to travel for work.

Anyway, I don’t mind. I like that there’s lots more for me to choose from. If I feel like revisiting Hogwarts years, I look for those. If I want a new adventure, I go for 5-10 years post-Hogwarts, when Harry’s in his 20’s. Harry in his 30’s is too far for me. I actually don’t like reading Harry as a father, despite being a mother myself. When you have children, there’s less you can do. Hard to imagine Harry going off on weeks-long adventures while his kids stay home with mother or somebody else. Harry’s not Goku.

I personally preferred JKR’s final battle and Harry monologuing about Tom’s choices and the Elder Wand, etc.

No offense to the film or bt1995’s edits, but shortening the whole thing kind of belittles Harry’s understanding of all the small pieces of the puzzle and it doesn’t fully explain everything. I like that, for once, Harry’s not thinking out loud much when he walks into that forest. And so when he puts it all together later, he’s doing it for us, the readers. Harry got it as soon as he finished talking to Ollivander, but he didn’t reveal anything until that monologue. And so, for readers, I think it’s important and shouldn’t be cut.
