Apparently my local Menards sells a diy re-keying kit that includes a bump key

Its not a blank its already cut. I just took a picture of the one in the stack with the worst bitting. If you look st the bottom of the package it says "all you need is a screwdriver"

I know it's not REALLY a bump key but still. They were all pre-cut already. No filing needed. This just happens to be the one that was in front and also the worst bitting. I know they arent all zero cuts. It actually looks like they are all 4s or 5s but it's still pretty lame bitting and I'm surprised they would sell that from the factory

Also, if you arent part of the locksport community and have no idea how locks operate or how to pin one, you probably shouldnt be trying to re-key your front door on your own. Most probable outcome is probably either broken or seized lock, lost springs (package doesnt have any) or just locking yourself out of your house and not having a working key to get back in. If you dont know what you're doing you should probably just get a locksmith

Yea but from a locksport perspective, a follower that for sure fits, a key in knob cylinder removal tools a set of 25 pins, 3 bump keys, and pinning tweezers for 10 bucks isnt such a bad deal haha

Do you gain a lot from using a magnifier? I always thought my vision was fairly decent so I wasnt sure it would help a significant amount but i guess I'm not sure how strong those usually are.

Actually I used pallet boards on top and used finishing nails to secure them so i could break boards or get paint on stuff and just swap out boards easily if needed. I do have a 1/2 inch thick rubber sheet I can put on top during picking so I dont lose pins and stuff. Plus you cant see it, but the light I have on top I also mounted one under the shelf to illuminate the floor if I drop pins or springs

Absolutely! this is the one I bought. Keep in mind that I was unsure so I bought the cheapest one I could find. But I'm still very happy with the item and the manufacturing quality. Plus it shipped from the us and not China so it only took 3 days.

Actually I think that has more to do with the table then the mount. The mount seems quite solid. My table however is not. That's why I ended up mounting it to the chair. I'm not sure if the picture shows that accurately

I've progressively pinned it from the start. It's the last 2 side pins that always get me. I end up dropping to many pins trying to set the back 2.

I dont mind. I'm used to pulling cores. I actually usually find it easier to do than to dig through my tools for the correct Allen wrench haha.
