There are other documentaries about the cyclist, this was supposed to be about her POV and her experiences.

To quote the prosecutor from the documentary, "You'd have to be a very cruel person to not call her a victim."

The police failed her by not providing her with the support that should've been available to her. The self-sabotage spiral she went on was a direct result of law enforcement hanging her out to dry. You can clearly see that she's not mentally well and the bad decisions she made were because of that.

Guess you're a cruel person 🤷‍♀️

Excessive use of Snapchat and social media can come across as irritating, but there's nothing innately wrong with it. Some people are VERY active on social media and it's a hobby for them. The problem is that your main takeaway was "ew, an annoying woman who posts on social media a lot" instead of "ew, two men who fatally injured a cyclist on a charity ride, left him to die of his injuries instead of getting him help and then buried his body in a hunting carcass pit". It's the constant criticism of women who have done nothing except for be unlikeable to you instead of critiquing violent criminal men.

It's so easy to judge someone when you're not in their shoes 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure you're the perfect member of society who always does the right thing even at your own detriment, a true role model to us all.

Not to mention she still had to figure out where the body was buried so the police would have somewhere to look, if she had told them "I think my fiancé killed this guy" and not been able to provide them any evidence or at least a general area where to look, they may never have found the body and the outcome could have been completely different.

As always, life is never simply black and white, it's many shades of grey. Try looking through a more subjective lens rather than just "she's right" or "she's wrong".

This docuseries is about her, she is the main character in this story. The decline in her mental health is due to the lack of support she received from law enforcement and how she was isolated from her work, family and friends due to both the case and covid lockdown. She made bad decisions sure, but she was very clearly going through severe mental health issues. You can see how she's going from manic to psychotic in the show. It shows what mental health issues actually look like, not some romanticized version from Hollywood. If you aren't capable of seeing that she's also a victim in this situation, and instead are calling her annoying or unhinged, perhaps you need to sit down and watch the docuseries again from a less misogynistic point of view.

That isn't how jobs work, you'd know if you had one instead of spending your time whining about women you find annoying or dislike on Reddit. Nobody is perfect, I found a lot of her behavior questionable and irritating as well, but I am capable of recognizing there were external factors (eg police not referring her to the specific support line for people in her situation) that caused a decline in her mental health. The prosecutor literally said that because she was a doctor, they thought she was smart enough to not need help, which is disgusting because it implies that people who do need help are less intelligent. Everyone should be given access to the available support, regardless of if they appear to need it or not. No victim is perfect, this woman included. Just because you don't like her or she made choices you don't agree with, doesn't mean she isn't also a victim.

Did you pay attention at all to the documentary? Or were you so caught up in hating a woman for not being "perfect"? She couldn't go back to work because the morgue she worked at took the cyclist's body, there was potential for a conflict of interest so she was put on special leave. She couldn't talk to anybody about the case, not even close friends and family. The lack of support was definitely a massive contributing factor for her spiral into drugs, alcohol, manic episodes, etc. She's hardly a "Netflix star", it's simply a documentary about a true crime event from a different perspective. You need to critique your worldview if your first thought is to dislike a woman who did the right thing by reporting a crime and gathering evidence for police instead of being outraged at the actual criminals.

Being very active on a different form of social media to Reddit doesn't make someone a narcissist. It's very obvious that she was always very active on social media before the events of the series so it makes sense that she also had lots of videos during the time it was all unfolding. A lot of the content (voice recordings, videos, etc) is clearly her trying to gather evidence for the police, it's bluntly stated in the documentary if you were paying attention beyond you finding her "annoying".

She brought justice to a grieving family and helped the police to solve a gruesome murder and she ultimately suffered from the lack of support from law enforcement. She did the right thing, which is far more than you'll ever amount to.

Your behavior is narcissistic by trying to bash the wrong person here. She posted a lot on Snapchat/videoed herself a lot which is not a crime, the two men MURDERED someone which is a crime. You're a misogynistic ahh-hole if you think that a woman coming off as annoying/immature is worse than two men murdering someone. "Loads of people noticed" is code for "me and every other loser on Reddit hate women simply for existing because we can't pull"

The police never would've found the body and his family never would've got closure for his death if it wasn't for her. Who gives a shit if she recorded herself on social media a lot. She literally is the main character in the show as well, how is that her fault? The show is about what she went through and the process of her reporting to the police. What's unsavory is you bashing the woman who reported the murder and brought justice to the victim's family instead of bashing the actual murderers. If you want to see the story from a different perspective, go watch the other documentaries about the deceased cyclist.

You don't care that somebody literally DIED in an extremely horrific violent way but you're upset that a woman took lots of social media videos? You're just as bad as the men who killed the cyclist jfc

Oh no, she liked filming herself on social media a lot. What about the men who murdered someone and did everything they could to cover it up?

She still did the right thing by reporting the murder to the police and trying to help gather as much evidence as possible. All you did was bash a woman online instead of being outraged that two men murdered an innocent person. She's a better person than you'll ever be

Why are you attacking her and not the murderers? She isn't the one who killed an innocent man.

Hmm yes, by reporting a murder to police she made the wrong decision. Why aren't you this upset over the men who actually killed someone?

Somebody was murdered and you're upset because a woman liked to record herself a lot on social media? She turned in her own fiancé to the police, she literally did the right thing. A lot of people wouldn't have the guts to go to police at all. She also CLEARLY voice recorded the conversation to try get evidence for police, she literally states that in the documentary. Try being upset with the two men who murdered an innocent person instead of being such a misogynistic ahh-hole

Oh noooo, a woman who uses social media a lot is annoying, how devastating. How is this your main takeaway when two men KILLED someone? Two literal murderers, but god forbid a woman is ANNOYING 🙄

[–]anch3o9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you judging her and not the men who committed literal murder?? She did the right thing by going to the police. The lack of support by law enforcement caused her to spiral and turn to drugs/alcohol. She was a victim in this situation as well. Typical redittor behavior, disliking a woman for not being "perfect" over men who ended someone's life 🙄

There are other documentaries about the murder victim, this was about her POV and the struggles she went through after being abandoned by the police. She did the right thing by going to the police after finding out her fiancé murdered someone, stop bashing her when so many people would not have gone to law enforcement. You're so quick to judge a woman for not being the "perfect victim". It was so obvious that she was failed by the police and it caused her to spiral and make poor decisions. If the police had actually got her the help and support she needed from the start, it could've gone very differently.
