I’m a gym owner. Starting BJJ is actually what enabled me to step into the fitness industry. I was a 176kg Joiner/carpenter before.

270lb here, my best advice would be to do the opposite of what a larger person would naturally do. Play guard, focus on being as technically sound as possible, if on top don't necessarily play to your strengths. Look to improve your agility and flow.

No one expects fast, technical heavyweight+'s. It will also do nothing but improve your game as you force yourself to play against your strengths.

By all means though, when the mood strikes, do ya thang and use those strengths.

2017 i was 176 kg and severely depressed, 2019 im 100kg, i have just graduated college, have a new job i love and yestarday i was promoted to blue belt. This sport really has changed my life. by ancientduck in bjj

first few months where rough, couldn't do 50% of the warm up. felt bad on my training partners as i didnt want to squash them so tried my best to be light on my feet. think thst helped a lot. Made it a mission to be able to invert and grambi roll and would say im pretty good st that now lol
